I have a Kryptek vest that I got about 6-8 years ago. It’s a soft shell with high pile fleece inside. I wear it a lot wether I’m hunting scouting or riding my motorcycles. My favorite part is the hand pockets are huge. They like go backwards the front part is like a normal pocket but you can shove a beer can (just for reference) behind your hand and still keep your hands in your pockets.
Picked up a sitka mountain vest this year, mainly to use as a wind stopper layer over top of a core lightweight when early season bow hunting. I can wear that in the early mornings when it’s cooler and not have the core lightweight breathe through too much and get me cold, and then tuck the vest away if needed when it warms up. Also for PM hunts after dark or even if it is a cooler windy day.
I typically don’t wear vests if temps are below 60, just go straight to the jacket for that.
I broke down and ordered one of the Plythal vests off Camofire. I think that I'm really going to like it. It isn't the most compressible thing, but I still like it. They're sizing runs big. Would recommend, with the caveat that I have not really utilized it yet in cold weather.
I use a Sitka Jetstream Lite vest with windstopper and that is just the right layer over my base layer when I'm moving a in cooler and lite brezzy weather. I used a Kryptek primaloft vest for a few years too but have moved to a Nomad DuoDown vest with hood...I'm really liking it. The Nomad has treated down, is light, packs small and the hood is a nice quick addition when glassing.
Anyone come across any good hooded vest options? I'm leaning towards the 240 for archery, but wondering if anyone has a hooded vest they use?
Edit - I am looking for specifically an outer layer piece. I have seen the Enlightened hooded vests, but looking for something in warmer weather that I can wear over a long sleeve merino.
