I’m starting to question the choice I have made in a gunsmith. I have heard great things about the smith I chose, I had got all the parts needed, called the smith and talked about what I was looking for. We went over some things they were going to get everything wrote up and message me the next day the work order. I sent my parts that next day. I messaged let them know I sent everything and asked about the work order, I was told they had not got it ready yet. Held off a few days with out seeing the work order, was told again it would be done that night. A week later messaged again same reply. Now it’s 2 and a half weeks without the work order and still haven’t seen it. Is this normal should I be questioning this, it’s my first custom rifle not sure how it should work.

Here is my deal, I don't care if you need extended time because your hunting or whatever. Just tell me the damn truth. If its next week fine.
If you tell me tomorrow night it better be tomorrow night.
Id ask for my stuff back if it was me, even if the work turns out good, its gonna be later then whatever he quoted.

Hunting season ok, but the guy should of let you know up front, ran into a situation like this with a custom muzzleloading long rifle, it got to the point that I told the builder I was on my way either have the money or the finished rifle, well what you know the rifle showed up.

It wouldn’t be a big deal if I was told a couple weeks, but when I’m told tomorrow multiple times it’s got me second guessing.

Don’t really want to blast them if there is a good reason for it.

Pick a reputable shop which sounds like you’ve done. Send parts and a written inventory of sent parts. Include written description of what you want. Copy for your records. Keep an eye on the tracking. It’s nice when they let you know it’s arrived. Then wait for a long time for your rifle. Calling and emailing and texting just takes time away from working. If they told you it’s a month, check in at a month, 3 months at 3 months and so on and so forth.

Go get your stuff. Trust your gut. This is a sign of things to come. Ask me how I know, with no rifle 2 years later...

I agree as well get your stuff. Nothing worse than getting the run around. When I was looking for a smith, I was talking to an employee of McMillan who suggested Marc Soulie of Spartan Precision Rifles. I gave him a call talked about rifles and hunting for a good hour. Genuine guy. Since then he has fit and chambered 2 rifles for me, and soon a third. His finish work is awesome, sending me pictures of the break blend on the lath, and if it was to my liking.

Think I’ll be getting it back and sending it to unknown munitions.

Well, if we don't know who the smith is, people can't really say if they have a good or bad reputation. And if you have a bad experience and don't share what you encountered, how are others supposed to avoid them?? Unless you're lying about what you've experienced, there is NOTHING WRONG with relaying your experience with them and letting others decide if they want to potentially deal with the same.

I ended up getting the finished rifle back from precise rifle solutions. It took 3 times the time quoted and had some hiccups but he took care of it in the end. With just the break in it’s looking like it will be a shooter.
