Question for you guys that use a case trimmer that utilizes a pilot for the case mouth. Do you size then trim or vice versa? In my reloading process I have always sized before I trimmed. Trimming was the last thing I did before loading. I have been using a Wilson manual trimmer that requires a different cutter to chamfer. I have been looking at the trimmers by Henderson and Hornady and must say, I like the idea of cutting, chamfering and deburring all at the same time.

The pilots for these trimmers are caliber diameter. If I trim after sizing the pilot would open the case mouth and vastly alter or eliminate neck tension.

Any info would be appreciated.

I have a Henderson trimmer and trim after sizing. Like you trimming is the last step in brass prep. The pilot is under sized. It will not open up your neck diameter unless you have extremely tight neck tension. I have not measured the pilots though. You could call or email Henderson to find out the diameter of the pilots you will need.

My case length will change during sizing so I have to trim after sizing. I haven't had any issues with the pilot changing the case mouth...they are pretty much free going in/out of the mouth.

I use a 21st century mandrel thats .002 under caliber. That gets me about .0025 of neck tension.
