So I have 7 antelope preference points currently, and applied/purchased this year so I will have 8 next year. My plan is within the next year or two to do a antelope hunt in the units somewhere near/around the miracle mile area. This would be a hunt I would like to bring my family out, camp, hunt, and fish etc. More or less an outdoors vacation haha.

I think I have a pretty decent grasp on the draw for wyoming, for male antelope. But my questions are more for like the doe antelope tags, specifically for my son. Should I make him an account and purchase a couple preference points for him to get a doe tag? just glancing at draw odds for the doe antelope it looks pretty dreary.

Would i be better off, looking at deer doe permits, just glancing it seems they have better draw odds (especially for whitetail doe)

just trying to figure out something for him to shoot at lol, if all else fails will bring the foxpro and try to call him some coyotes, or break out the shotguns on some upland type stuff

anyway just looking for some opinions, etc.

There isn't a much better family hunting trip than a pronghorn trip. My wife, one year old, and I will be doing the same thing in ~6 weeks.

To address a handful of your questions:
  • You should get your son preference points regardless if you think he will draw a tag then or not
    • You can average points, and in the special, you might be able to swing a decent tag then with your points + his points / 2
  • As mentioned, doe tags are random. Certain units have better odds than others. Keep an eye on allocations in the spring. Someone has to draw the tag...
  • Regardless of points, your son will have a chance to pick up a tag in the random in any given year. Yet again, someone has to draw.
  • Generally speaking, the deer doe tags are much more limited (and the hunting is likely harder) than antelope doe tags. There isn't always overlap either.
  • Fishing is great in that area. Have fun with that!

There are certainly some areas that still have doe tags for antelope where you are talking about.
I'd get him a PP or 2 before you apply and put him in also for a Type 1, might get lucky in the random side.
You can also apply for doe tags.

I think this will be the route i will go, based off what I am seeing on the website, and people's comments here. Sometimes you just gotta hear it from your buds on here lol. Since I know I am a year or two out on the hunt I will get him a couple points and see what happens

I am looking to do something similar and have a similar number of points (8-9). I also have some elk and deer points there but I wanted to ease myself in this year by going for antelope. Id love to take one of my buddies with me if he could get an over the counter tag of some kind, but like you i realized (based on the draw results tables) that the doe/fawn tags are actually hard to draw despite what i have heard. I am wondering if i am misunderstanding this somehow because another friend of mine drew a buck antelope tag in unit 83 in 2025 and also drew 2 doe tags for the same unit. It doesn't seem like that should have been possible based upon the odds i see online. Am I missing something?

Doe tags are a random draw, he got lucky and drew them sounds like. No OTC for antelope anymore in Wyoming, just not any leftovers after the last draw.
Doesn't hurt to apply but be expecting to not draw them I would say.
