Hey all. My son and I are wanting to go back to Wyoming for a DIY mule deer hunt in 2028. A little back story. We moved to Louisiana back in 2022 from Laramie, WY. We loved hunting Wyoming. Its just not the same down here, fun, but not the same. Just started buying points. By 2028 draw we will likely have 2 maybe 3. We just want to have a chance at a decent deer, don't need a record breaker.
The region we are looking at is W in area 131. But we haven't hunted that area even when we lived there. We will be driving from Louisiana for this hunt, so debating on bringing our little camper and camping out on the BLM land. Are the roads around Essex Mountain pretty ok to navigate? Of course, not looking to get too far in with the camper but just trying to cut down on drivetime in the mornings to the areas we want to go.
Anybody have any experience in that area? Any advice before we commit to this area? Would a 4wheeler be worth dragging along with us?
