Got a Sawyer mini filter on the way and I am buying a new Platypus 3L big zip hydration bag. I am wanting to connect the filter to the bladder line. Is there a specific attachment from Sawyer that I need to purchase to make it work or can the filter be attached right into the bladder line? I have only had experience with a Seychelle in line filter that I had attached to my old camel bag bladder and it required specific attachments to the water line from the bladder.

Technically, nope :) I actually was playing around with a new 3L Big Zip and a Sawyer mini last night. Essentially, all you have to do is to just cut the hose from the bladder and the mini just pushes onto either piece of hose. Now, the "nipples" aren't barbed so time will tell on how well the hose stays on but it seems pretty secure.

You are good with just the mini. Cut about 8in away from the bite valve. The mini has the barbs for the hydration line built into it so you will just have to push the hydration line onto the barbs. Nothing else to buy.

Sawyer makes an adapter kit for this purpose, I have one for my regular sized Sawyer. I though that the mini was designed for use inline, and came ready to install.

Info is much appreciated. Just wanted to double check. I hate ordering crap only to have to return it.

Yup it is ready, I have mine setup on a quick connect as well but not needed to run it inline.

Bit of a thread jack but you guys who have had both the regular size sawyer and the new mini - how do they compare?
Like a dumba$$ I let my regular sawyer inline freeze last year so need to replace it here soon.

It's tiny. That is about all I can offer as I haven't had any field use yet. I can take some pictures later if want.

I have both and think the mini will be ok but I'm wondering if it will clog easily. Only time will tell.

I like the size of the mini over the regular.

Not sure what you have purchesed yet. But Geigerrig makes a pretty snazzy setup. You can hook a virus or crypto filter in line. Clips will not pop loose. You can also pressurize the bladder for faster filtering. Similar opening to the Platypus Big Zip.

I also like the pressurized bladder for drinking out of or spraying water on things you might want to clean...i.e. hands.

Thanks for the feedback - I like the smaller size (and price) but its not worth giving up any performance for. The regular size was not that big...

I was concerned with leakage from removing it from the hose to clean and such so I put this on mine.

Yeah I went ahead and ordered those as well so I can disconnect the filter when i'm not out in the wilderness and connect the hose back without having to pull the ends out every time. I too was concerned about leakage over time by having to pull and insert the ends a lot. Figured the plastic hose at some point would start becoming to supple at the cut ends after extended use.

Are you sure those work with the Mini filter? I have a set around here somewhere that I will check and see.

Here are a couple quick photos comparing the two. The regular Sawyer filter has the adapters on it.

Here is the end that is designed to fit over a squeeze bag or bottle.
