Fairly new to the Puffy Jacket idea. I understand these are a great top layer if stopping to glass for a bit, but what about under a layer? I generally pack a Sitka Jetstream jacket for the windproof fabric but am curious if compressing a puffy under an outer layer is going to do anything to the R value? Thanks guys

I typically wear either my Spindrift or my Kelvin lite vest under my 90% jacket or Cloudburst if the weather is bad and it works great. Helps to protect the thinner shells of the puffys.

I like to wear a lightweight hard shell over my puffy for early morning glassing as it helps cut the wind and for the warmth to weight ratio it's hard to beat.

The spindrift was my first puffy jacket. I was skeptical if it was needed or not, but I picked it up on sale. It may be my favorite clothing piece I have ever added. I use it so frequently. Its almost always with me now. It packs up small when not in use and is so light. I wear it under my soft shell for insulation when its real cold, which produces great warmth. Outer layer when sitting to glass occasionally. Stuff it in my pack real easy, and it comes in and out a lot in the fall. Sleep in it at night or use it as a pillow. Easy to pack up and keep in my truck for a just in case jacket. I have loved it for the cold fall fishing I have been doing. And I even like wearing it around town.

Same here - all these new puffys on the market and I can't bring myself to stray. Really think Kuiu may have screwed up by dropping this one from their line.

I often wear my Arc Teryx Atom SV puffy under my Sitka Jet stream when the temps really drop. I find it to be a great and versatile combo, especially for late fall and winter.

Me too, I wish they would bring out a new on with a simple hood too!
