Question for the supressor guys on using an adapter

I use rockset and have found I need to soak the adapter in water at least 4 hours for the removal or it is a chore. I put a plastic cup of water in the ground and set the barrel into it at lunch. By dinner they pop off with a turn of the wrench.

When I I apply it I do torque it to 50 lbs and run a full bead down the top of the threads. Let it sit overnight. Then heat gun for 10 mins. Never had an issue

Just my $.02, but threading to 5/8x24 and adding a shouldered collar is a better option. Less chance of tolerance stacking and more meat at the muzzle.

This. I do have an adapter on one of my barrels but that was because it came to me already threaded 1/2-28. For the rest, even sporter barrels, they get sent to Karl at Kampfeld Customs and he threads them with a permanent collar. The major diameter of 5/8-24 threads is 0.625, so as long as you have that much meat at the end of your barrel (which covers almost every sporter barrel) you can have them threaded with a permanent collar.

I used 1/2-28 to 5/8” adapters on several rifles before noticing a first round zero shift on 2 of them. I pulled the adapters off and replaced my HUB adapters with 1/2-28” ends to direct thread with no adapter and the zero shift went away completely. Just a sample of a few and it could’ve been due to the quality of my adapters.

I personally have no qualms with 1/2-28” threads and am using them in everything from a 22/250 to a 7mm WSM.

Not a huge deal. I would rather not have an adapter and I don't on any of my current rifles but I've ran them before. CHECK THEM ALL WITH A ALIGNMENT ROD.

I had an older rifle threaded 1/2 and the gunsmith put an adapter on there. I assume a cheap one. I couldn't get my rod through my can and into my barrel. No doubt that would have been a baffle strike. A high quality adapter solved the problem.

The adapter is used was from AB.
