Question for Chassis Users

I currently have a first generation Seekins Element in 7PRC. Considering buying the SLAM chassis or even upgrading to the new Element Hunter.

I love the idea of the chassis to fold up for hike in / out in the dark, day before season etc. But when I look at the height of the grip, it makes me wonder if this could complicate prone shots off backpack or short tripod. ie. could the grip contract the ground before buttstock and interfere with getting in a good position?

Has anyone switched to chassis and then regretted it over a more traditional stock?

I go back and forth. Chassis are very comfortable to shoot, but the magnesium and aluminum ones do have more felt recoil because they are so rigid.

I really really really like the fact that I can fold them though. So I just now have purpose built guns.

I have a 6.5 PRC with a 22" barrel in a folding chassis, a 16" 6.5 PRC also in a folder (I can completely stow this inside three of my backpacks). And then I have a 300 rum and 300 norma for my long range style hunting that aren't in chassis.

Riding dirt bikes on single tracks for hunting, having the rifle sit down 10" lower makes a huge difference for stability.

As a practical matter, the grip has never interfered with getting prone to shoot. It doesn't protrude a whole lot more than the vertical grip stocks out there. If you have one gun, if you "like" the feel of shooting a chassis enough, then the folder with pistol grip will work for you.

Its one of those things you have to try out. I like the feel of a vertical grip stock best, but a chassis isn't far off.

I have gone back and forth as well, whether to use a chassis or not because of features. Ultimately, like Ken, I have my long range rifles in CF stocks. I also have a folding AR15 and picked up a Sig Cross. Both also have shorter barrels like Ken, as purpose built rifles.
