I'm heading to Quebec in September to hunt caribou, but there is also some outstanding fishing for brook trout and lake trout. I haven't found much in regards to spin fishing gear.
Does anyone have any recommendations on rods and lures. I'm thinking a light action spinning rod, 8# test, and 1/4-1/2 oz. spinners and spoons. Any one have any suggestions? There is quite a bit of fly fishing info, but it's virtually a bust for spin fishing info.

My outfitter sent me a list of recommendations:
Lake Trout
Medium action rod and reel w/10 to14lb test. Lures such as the Pixee, William Wobblers, Daredevils, Mooselook Wobblers and the little Cleo in the 3/4 to 1oz work well.
Brook Trout
Light action rod and reel w/6-8lb test. Lures such as Mepps, Vibrax, Little Cleos, West Rivers and Krocodiles in the 1/3 to 1/2 oz size.
Arctic Char
Medium action rod and reel w/10 to 14lb test. Most productive lures are the Nebco Pixie(hot pink color)1/2oz size. Other popular spoons are Daredevils,Toronto Wobblers and the little Cleo in the 1/2 to 3/4oz size.

Hope this helps.

That's a start, it is in line with what i thought. Any ideas on colors? I went to saskatchewan a couple years ago and it was damn near a 5 fish to 1 ratio on 5 of diamonds dardevles compared to anything else. If you extras you could of sold them for $20 a pop!

You could easily be getting into 10lb+ lakers up there. I've had great luck catching really big lakers in Colorado using big jerkbaits (4-8 inch), spoons and tube jigs. With a quality reel and a correctly set drag you should be able to land about any size laker with 10lb or 12lb mono. Don't be afraid to throw the larger baits if you want a trophy laker.

If it was me i'd be taking a 2 piece 7 foot medium weight fast tip rod loaded with 20lb braid and using a 12lb flourocarbon leader. I'd have a healthy assortment of 2-6 inch tube and whirltail jigs with 1/8 to 1/2 ounce owner jig heads. a couple rapala Xraps & countdowns in rainbow or tigerfire, maybe some flatfish (if you will be fishing from a boat at all) and a bunch of kastmaster and daredevil spoons. Them finish it out with some terminal tackle.

We catch multiple double digit lake trout every year in colorado using the above lures. My personal best is a 40 inch 28lber last spring. Good luck

I may take a pair of rods now- i actually think my bait caster that i use for pike would be excellent for lakers, and maybe a light action rod for the brookies.
I've started stocking up on the smaller 1/4 - 1/3 oz dardevles, and will take some larger spoons for the lakers as well. Classic red and white, five o' diamonds will definitely be in the box. Any other suggestions ?
