20 years a machinist, 16 years married in May.
Frankly, I've worn my ring almost every day since. Removed perhaps only when filing a part on a lathe, maybe when welding or electrical work, or perhaps some gnarly mechanic tasks. Otherwise, I keep it on, and it's been fine. I also wear a nice mechanical watch in the shop, and seldom remove that too, so perhaps I'm just conditioned to work carefully. (They do kind of serve as conscious reminders to work carefully...)
My ring is a simple Palladium band.
If I were going to make my own, I'd probably take the easy way, and just turn something from a 316ss hex-nut.
Edit to say, if you do that, buy a fine-pitch nut. Less thread-height to drill/bore out.
BTW - Congratulations. Weddings are silly, but marriage is awesome. Wishing you many years of happiness together.
