Puffy Q

i wear a cheap puffy vest. i jogged in it recently and it stayed kinda warm despite my copious sweating.

not something i would try in the backwoods. i might try to buy a better vest soon...hell, even a fleece vest is badass as a layer. i used to use a fleece but i like the compact size of a packed down vest.

Depends a lot on the weather and style of hunting. Some type of puffy is certainly a part of my clothing system at all times. I have a lighter puffy for early season and/or to wear while hiking, and some heavier options for colder weather.

I'm liking my puffy vest too. Also can hike in it more since heat will dump out the arm holes. No sleeves is also quiet for a puffy if stalking.

Try replacing your softshell with a puffy vest. You didn't mention your lower body or gloves, hat, are you losing heat from those areas?

Yep pretty much. I ran with my Chama hood up all the time. But gloves and extra stuff was not in the budget last year. I'll try to do get a good stocking cap and gloves this year. Or maybe a balaclava. I really like the Kuiu Peloton 240 hat.

Do you guys ever (normally) wear your puffy while actively hunting or do you have your system figured out so the puffy is just for when your stationary and as a sleep booster?

If you just use it for sitting would you say one can be too warm?

Asking because lm thinking of trading my FL uncomp for a Kifaru LP parka.

Just making sure lm not missing something that l havent thought of.

I always have my puffy with me at least in the pack. Unless we're only moving like a couple hundred yards I'll keep it on, otherwise I always take it off. I just get too hot too quickly with it on. I wouldn't say that it ever really gets too hot for me while sitting still, unless the sun is beating down and the temperature really warms up. It always just seems comfortable and nice.

I'm a cold sleeper so I find myself wearing it at night to sleep in as well. But I always have it with me while away from camp. Currently using the Kryptek Aquillo as a jacket, but have also had great luck with the Sitka Kelvin Lite for a little less insulated option.

I made the mistake of hiking in to my spot with my FL Uncompahge...I got way to hot and it was around 32 degrees outside. It is best just to suck up the cold while you get moving, and have a nice puffy layer waiting to put on when you get to your spot.
