Been looking at getting a pair of puffy pants for this year.
Mostly for glassing and also to have while sleeping with just a quilt on cooler nights.

Looking at the Black Ovis Anchor Points, the Kuiu Super down pants and the SG Grumman.

Any experience with these or others I should look at?

I think the black ovis is hard to beat for $100. Almost identical weight and fill weight to stone glacier and lighter with more down the Kuiu super down pant. There could be things about the sg and Kuiu that make them better but not enough to spend 2 or 3 times the money for me.

I have the WM Flight pants - super warm, quite pricey even if you get them on sale. I run cold and they keep me on the mountain longer.
Before that I had $10 old army surplus poncho liner puffy pants from a surplus store, honestly, they were 60-70% as warm as my current puffy pants. If I was hunting warmer climates Id be fine running those.
Wife has the Kings camo brand - can be found on sale relatively frequently and are good quality, if a little heavier than the high end competitors.

I went with the synthetic First Lite's, just wanting more durability for glassing, riding ATV's/dirt bike, etc. I like them pretty well. I'm sure the ones you mentioned are warmer per weight tho.

I have a synthetic pair from Black Diamond I purchased years ago. I really like them. As said above they might not be as light as other current options but I not afraid of wearing them through bush on short trips while glassing or doing chores around camp

Look at the down fill amount, fill power, and total weight of the pants. Compare those specs to the price and go from there.

Good luck!

I got the KUIU super down last year. I was so pumped to use them I took them on every hunt.
Never did need them. Ha
Maybe this year

I’ve found that a puffy pant is going to spend a lot more time in contact with dirt, mud, rocks, sticks, etc. when sitting compared to a jacket. That’s why it’s hard to beat the Kuiu Super Down Pros in my opinion. Substantially tougher fabric in the seat and knees compared to my SG Grummans as well as stouter zipper for when debris gets in them. The Grummans have their place as well if you’re strictly talking for backpack hunts or lighter general use but the weight difference is minimal outside of that use case. I think for most people using them across a variety of hunts, the Kuius will be the better option.

I am continually amazed at how often I use mine, despite the looks I often get from clients and other people I hunt with. And then they try a pair and their tune changes. Until you try them, you will not realize how much heat you lose through your legs. Regardless of brand, they belong in everybody’s kit.
