I’m taking my dad on a Canadian black bear hunt. He does not archery hunt so he will be using a 270. Shots will be under 30 yards. Any recommendations on factory ammo for shots that close of range.

while i reload a lot and we had a 270 win for years we used with a lot of success the 150gr corelock from remington and it is working on grizzly as well.

Well I'm not impressed with remington qc lately. Bought 100rds of 6.5 creed, it was patterning instead of grouping, pulled bullets and a grain and a half variance...

I say Federal factory.

Lots of right ammo choices, not a lot of wrong ones for 100-300lb bears at near point blank range with a 270. Any commonly available hunting bullet will do just fine.

Any decent round will work fine. I'm partial to the Accubond and Partition myself but there are many other great choices. Something that opens up fast but still penetrates well is what you want.

cannot be a bad choice the nosler ones too ... i reloaded the 160 grains from nosler partition but never had a grizzly or black bear while having them with us ...

I have shot 3 black bears with the 160 gr Partition and it's definitely my favorite Nosler bullet. I know other lighter ones work well too though but I love that old school bullet.

I've shot a few with bows- none with a rifle. Good to know anything would work decent. My next trip up there I wouldn't mind bringing my rifle. 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag- have Terminal Ascent for both.

Last black bear I killed was with a 280 Remington & 140gr Winchester super X
About 100-150 yards away in Colorado,
Imo any federal or Winchester factory load will do it
150gr Norma oryx bonded is running out of my 270win featherweight
BB on bait are money in the bank if you can do your part
