Eager as well on the review.

I tend to run cold especially on long sits. I've been running the FL puffy now since October of last year, and love the coat. During the 3rd season in CO last year, I was sitting on some ambush set ups trying to catch the elk moving between their beds, feed, & water sources. 4 of those days it never cleared the single digits. I ran the Kuiu Super Down hooded version under the FL puffy. It did fine for the most part, but I wasn't super impressed with the SD. It was extremely light, but I didn't find it any warmer than my heavy merino sweater. I also notice that my arms cool off a lot faster with the FL puffy. Once I chilled through I had to get up and move obviously. I also spend a tremendous amount of time on the central plains, hunting big grass pastures in December for deer and calling coyotes. So I'm sure it will get used there as well. I get the warmth / weight ratio thing and understand the Kuiu SD compared to a merino sweater is an apples to baked potatoes comparison.

I'm considering the GoLite Bitteroot or the Barneys SuperCub here. As far as I can tell they would both do the trick and perform as good, hopefully better, than the Kuiu SD. I'm not super worried about the down as I will run it under the FL puffy or rain shell and it should stay dry. I suppose moisture absorption from a sweaty base layer could be of concern, but maybe not much of one. I would think that the SuperCub will last longer and perform for more years than the down. In the end I'm trying to ditch the sweater as it is heavy, and doesn't pack well. Looking for opinions & experience on layering like this.

Thanks

I have both the SD and Barneys, and the Barneys is a lot warmer and tougher than the SD. The trade off it's twice as heavy, but at the end of the day, there is no point packing a light jacket around if your not going to be warm. Last time I talked to the guys at Barney's they said they are working with a new company to redesign the SC and BR line. Now all I have to do is get my super cub jacket back from my dad. He loves the thing and has been wearing it all fall and winter.
