Why am I having an impossible time finding a puffer wind checker bottle that isnt huge? I ordered one a couple weeks ago and its a scent-a-way brand one (dead down wind, HS, etc - they're all about the same), and its 28g of powder, and the thing shows up and its huge. I've searched online and a 1 or 2 stores and can't find what I'm looking for.

FHF sells a small one thats round, but I'd rather have an oval one so it fits in my bino harness pocket better.

Can anyone help me out?

Moccasin Joe Smoke in a bottle. Word on the street he’s got the freshest elk piss in a bottle too.

Rocky Mountain hunting calls had the perfect size bottles. I just refill with whatever works

I use an eye dropper bottle filled with baking soda. Nice and compact. The key is finding a bottle with a removable insert so the opening can be enlarged for the powder to puff out of.

A couple inches tall by maybe 1.5" wide. A little bigger than a small box of matches. I keep it in the little side pocket of my Kuiu bino harness.

Keep the bottles and refill with bulk bottle of micro balloons, they are microscopic glass balloons and don't absorb water or clump up, pretty sure that's what the Smoke in a Bottle is comprised of, also lighter in weight than talc, the linked bottle will likely last you multiple years of refills!

I followed oldgoats recomendation on the microballons from another thread. I highly sugget the microballons over some powder. They float very well!

Thank you everyone for the recommendations of the Moccasin Joe...Black Ovis will have them back in stock in a couple weeks and I will order one up!

Take this advice^^^^
I tried it and works well. I have used chalk before but in the south with high humidity and intense fog at times it clogs up. I tried these microballoons in some really bad fog the other night over a couple hours at work and it never gummed up on me.

I buy these oval bottles and they come in various sizes with a cap you press to open.

I get them at a farm and ranch store (no brand name on them - sorry), and like others, fill them with micro ballons.

Another thing that I found that works is Bohning Feather Dri for keeping traditional feathers from absorbing too much moisture and weighting them down. And it's a lot cheaper per unit of volume than the others, https://www.3riversarchery.com/feather-dri-water-repellent-powder.html

Remember that when you refill the bottles, don't overfill. To get proper dispersal of the powder or microballoons, it should only be 1/3 full max. Give it a little shake before you squirt it. I just buy Moccasin Joes, and it comes in unscented, or Elk cow in heat. I use both.

I’m not sure if that’s what it’s made out of. The stuff grows all over and dried out they give a great view of what the wind is doing.

Milkweed is awesome. The big advantage is that the powders seem to dissipate a few feet away and you can’t see what the wind is doing past 10-20 feet.
You can watch a tuft of milkweed float off and be carried by the breeze for 50 yards, maybe more.
