Public lands public hands bill

My perspective on Mike Simpson is very positive. He was instrumental in getting the Cecil Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness and the Jim McCure-Jerry Peak Wilderness areas through the legislative process. What I will say is that anyone who enjoys these two Wilderness areas in Idaho owes retired USFS employee Ed Cannady a beer. Ed was responsible for dragging an out of shape U.S. Representative named Mike Simpson into these areas likely changing both of their lives and sparking a conservativation ethos in Mr. Simpson that had not been refined to the degree it has in his latter years. Initially I wasn't so sure about newly elected U.S. Representative Zinke, but he's gaining favor with me as the result of his clear and aggressive stand on this public lands issue.

Mike Simpson has been a tireless voice for conservation in Idaho for years. He was also one of the earliest and most visible opponents of the absurd Lava Ridge Wind Farm project in Southern Idaho approved by the BLM under the Biden administration. Thank goodness that the plug was pulled when Trump got into office.

Go online and it’s pages and pages about Mike being a RINO - for supporting public lands. I for one am glad for every Mike Lee there is a Mike Simpson. Idaho has a history of politicians of both parties supporting public lands based on collaboration and getting everyone to the table; on those central Idaho wilderness bills it was a battle of mountain bikers vs dirt bikers vs no access types… enviros vs grazers… Boise vs Custer county… Washington vs Idaho… nobody gets everything and even though he has pissed many off over the years, he has been an honest broker.
