Hey guys, just picked up a used PSE Mach 1. Upon inspection, it appears that there are a couple of small cracks in the riser. Do these cracks look like they are just in the paint or are they actually in the carbon? It may just be the paint but am worried it's deeper. This is my first carbon bow so I am not too familiar with them. Thanks for any help you can offer.20200807_154403.jpg20200807_154344.jpg

That bottom one looks bad, especially since it's originating from that limb pocket bolt hole. I'd send these pictures to PSE before shooting it.

Yikes!!! I wouldn't shoot it. Get it inspected at a dealer.

Looks like possibly some damage around the pivot nut for the limb bolt in the bottom picture. In addition to the damage in the pivot bolt area. I wouldn't dare shoot it without having someone familiar with those bows sign off on it, looks like more than paint damage to me.

Is it an 80# bow?
I’ve seen one other Mach 1 crack. It was at the roller guard and it was an 80# bow

The seller is responsible for letting you know of all issues, cosmetic or not. I would absolutely be asking for my money back. Assuming you bought it here, I would contact an admin and PayPal.

I agree Ucsdryder, the seller should have told me about the cracks. I would still feel uneasy about shooting the bow and would likely have a hard time reselling if I don't end up liking it. The seller can contact PSE and have it replaced or repaired under warranty. I actually purchased the bow through another forum so it was not one of our fellow Roksliders.

Hey guys, just an update.

The seller said the issues were cosmetic. So, I took the bow to a PSE dealer to get an impartial opinion. They took some pics and sent them to their PSE rep. The rep called the shop back and said that they use a white epoxy in those areas to smooth over the carbon so it looks smooth when they paint. There is actually no carbon near the surface in those areas. Sometimes the epoxy can develop small cracks. He said that the bow is safe to shoot. Not sure how I feel about cracks in a $1600 bow and the seller should have told me about them.

If you keep the bow get everything that is coming from PSE in writing. They are making a recommendation to shoot it. If it does blow up, I'd want to have them on the line as saying it was fine.

Very well could be epoxy. Might be fine. I'd be nervous about it and would be trying to return to the seller so they can have it replaced under warranty.

Thanks again for all of the help guys. I ended up sending it back to the seller who was nice about it. I'll probably end up looking for another used Mach 1 and will hopefully get to shoot the darn thing!

I have the Dudley Mach 1 in 80lbs that I purchased 1 week ago. After screwing my stabilizer on twice I realized that the pressure had caused the paint to chip off the riser. Then when picking the bow up, my release tapped the riser and another piece of paint chipped off. While inspecting it I found that one of the top limbs has splintered off. I now have to drive 2 hours One way to a dealer and have them inspect the limbs and then PSE will ship them new limbs and supposedly have it done before my hunt. They don’t seem very concerned for the money or time I’ll be out. I’m not impressed with this company. They said I’d need to ship the bow in at a later date to address the faulty paint. $1600 for a bow and this is the quality control you get.

*update, they said they had the right color of limbs now, but if I want them before my hunt next week the shipping would be on me, which I have no choice, but to do. As for the poor paint job, they said I could ship it in after hunting season to have it fixed because it sounded like they over cured the bow and “baked” it too long. That will be a 6 week turn around time. This is going to be a $2,000 bare bow before I get done paying for all their incompetences. It’s a hell of a way to treat customers. Make sure you buy a new one if you do, so you’ll have a warranty.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience with PSE Okie84. I emailed PSE twice about the cracked riser and never heard back from them. I checked my junk mail daily too...nothing.

I ended up buying another used mach 1 in the FL fusion color. It has a few superficial chips in the finish of the grip also. Looks similar to yours though not quite as noticeable due to the camo. Its not a huge deal to me but it is still a bit annoying. At the end of the day, my bow functions perfectly and that's what matters most to me. I hope they step up and replace the limbs before your hunt.

That is definitely an option for him this close to his hunt. I had to do that when my Elite Energy limb started to splinter on day one of a ten day hunt. No back up bow at the time.
