Guys hunting next to roads and complaining about road noise. SMH. Rookies, this is Rokslide, pack in 5 miles, spike out in your UL bivy, run your nightforce on your fieldcraft and come out heavy.
talk to me when your hunting partner is 26 weeks pregnant and hunting at 12800 feet. 😆

With the second being horses and the third optics, it all should be outlawed other then a hand made stick bow and arrows while having to wear cotton clothes barefoot.
People have been hunting off horses for thousands of years. I’ll take all the horses in the west vs some slob atv hunters riding around during the best hunting times blowing out animals.

Ive watched elk pop over a knob and walk around it as the atv rolls past....then back to feeding.

I had two guys ride 600 yards through some of the best elk transition ground there is...at first light and on the top of the ridge. This checks every dumb box.....and to top it off, they were fish squeezers by trade.

I'd expect a greenhorn to make a mistake like that....but they certainly should've known better.

The good news is that I was able to use them to play cat and mouse with the herd to my benefit.

I’ve seen ranchers checking cows blow elk out of an area as well, it happens.

I bet you would of preferred them on ebikes, lol. Sorry that is too much of a pot stirring thing to say 😆

Ha!!!

I’ve hunted on horses. In my experience the elk are not scared of them…at all…

I’m all for motorized bikes, as long as they’re on motorcycle trails…get it…motor-cycle! 😜

Yep. ridden right past mule deer on horseback many a time. Never blew them out.

Reminds me of Jeremiah Johnson when they're using their horses to sneak up on an elk:

Jeremiah: What if they see our feet?

Bear Claw: Elk don't know how many legs a horse has!

Disabled people are allowed to hunt from vehicles in many states. Do you want them to walk in? Btw, there is an easy solution if you don't want to be near road hunting, walk away from the roads.

I don't hunt from a vehicle, but I see no difference between road hunting with a truck, suv, utv, or atv. Seems like some on this thread are just mad that they don't own an atv or utv. ;)

Plus not a ton of recreational riders are 11 miles back at day break on their atvs.
I wonder how many elk get pushed into dark timber from someone having to be 11 miles back by daylight? I’m sure there were zero elk between were you were hunting and where you left the highway? There was zero possibility you pushed elk into dark timber getting back and forth and while hunting during the day?

I’m mad because while some dude and his 26 week pregnant hunting partner were trying to get to elk @12,800’ they blew out the elk I was hunting @12,000’. Good thing it was just a 370” bull. If it was a 390” I would be wearing a cape so I could be super mad.

Most cattle ranchers use dogs and are busting cattle out checking them. Just trail riding i would agree.

Aren’t we talking about a motorized trail in this thread? 😜

I know what it's called, but I think it should be applied across all public lands.
Just wait for recreational users that don’t hunt to say the same about hunters not being on public lands, pretty easy to throw your views across the board. I know most hate when hunting season starts as they don’t feel safe in the woods.

There is plenty of public for all types, if you completely dislike motors i hope you don’t drive a vehicle to a trailhead, lol. Also stop road hunting or i guess hunting roads and it won’t be an issue, pretty easy to get completely away from any of this stuff.

Some of the worst slob hunters are horse hunters
Riding through everything just like atv's
At least legal atv use is on a road or 2 track
Horses can go anywhere
And I use horses as well as atv
I love hunting with a wheeler. Just gotta get off the roads a bit. Nobody walks

We hunt a unit that has heavy recreational ATV/UTV use. Elk and deer don’t seem to mind them. At least the ones we have seen when parking and starting to walk into an area and there they are, less than 100 yards from the trail. Killed many deer and elk within sight of the trails in our unit.

I laugh when we pass a group of guys walking up the 50” ATV roads all out of breath lol. Clogging the road and making us slow down. What is wrong with people today 😎
