Does anyone have any experience with the Dauntless Tripod by T3 Optics sold on the PRSTF Shop website? Looking to buy one and wanted others feedback before I make the purchase. Thanks!

Might get more traction in the firearms or long range hunting forum. @dster3 Seemed to be familiar with them..

I'm looking for a more "gamer" tripod myself than my current RRS 24L and the 3 section dauntless is intriguing.

Yeah this would be specifically for NRL hunter. Been using my RRS 33 but the 2 piece inverted seems to be the way to go

I’m wondering the same thing. Trying to decide if I want a RRS 22i or the T3.

I have both of these. The T3 is better for matches IMO. You don't need to extend the legs and you are at kneeling height, so it's quicker for target acquisition than the 22i. I haven't used the dauntless enough yet, so I haven't found a ton of purpose in the locking apex at this point. I've really only used it for glassing and tripod rear though, not a lot of variable height, clipped-in shooting. For PRS matches the Dauntless wins for sure because it gets you to standing height, where the 22i doesn't.

A dude i shot with at a match had the 3 section one by them. Not sure what it was called but it looked pretty nice and he seemed real happy with it. The leg lockout mechanism seemed pretty smart to get the most amount of stability out of a platform.

For $300 less with the anvil adapter and leg locks, i think the dauntless is the ticket for a gamer tripod. 2 section inverted in general is an advantage for any sort of competition

It just seems like the full height 2 sections are higher than I'd want for seated/kneeling without splaying the legs out - am i missing something? I haven't really done tripod rear much at all so maybe that's it, speed to get it tall?

For doing more seated/kneeling shooting from the tripod, the 3 section min height seemed attractive to me.

I think either tripod is best suited if you run a MDT triple pull and use them for tripod rear. If you don’t, I’d go with at least a 3 section or the 22i compact.

I had the same thought before I switched. I really liked the height of my 3 section Two Vets Recon for glassing or shooting off in NRL hunter because I didn't have to splay or move any legs to be at the right height so I was hesitant to switch. With the 2 section to glass from I can't quite sit on my heels like I like to but kneeling a little more vertical hasn't been a problem. As far as shooting off of - I don't do near as much as I used to because I am a triple pull cheater now - but when I do I usually just kick a leg out.

One unmentioned benefit of the 2 section is when you are using it for rear there is less twist lock joints to get in the way. I found that whenever I was using the 3 section as rear support in a kneeling or seated position, the twist locks were always right where i wanted to rest my hand/rifle. Other than that, I think the speed of the 2 section makes up for maybe having to elevate slightly for glassing or make an adjustment to shoot off of.

That's perfect input, thanks!

I'm not a triple pull owner yet and unsure if I'm going to go that direction. Decisions decisions.. The "trilogy" is another $150 which doesn't help. $850 for a leofoto is getting harder to accept.

I thought the same on the price but it is probably in line with its competition. Leofoto branded is a few hundred cheaper but doesn't have the anvil adapter or the locking legs and hardly any resale value. RRS is several hundred more. Two vets is within $100.

I’m thinking I will just go with the RRS 22i. Yeah it’s more expensive, but it’s also American made. It will hold its value better

I have a dauntless and i love it for a gamer or truck tripod. Its very solid, the right height to kneel behind to glass in nrl and with the lockout on a prs style stage using tripod rear you can scoot the tripod around and not have the legs fold up on you, giving better stability. I like it so much ill be bringing it on some easy day hunts this year because its just so nice to shoot off. I dont own an rrs but coming from other tripods its nice and solid to the point im the problem not the tripod. For me if i dont need to fold up legs into a backpack less sections is easier faster and more stable.

I am pretty familiar with the T3 dauntless, I'm friends with the designer/T3 and do a lot of machining work for him, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The two section is really nice to have for a "gamer" tripod. You can go from an obi link to straight glassing for NRL. inverted legs are fast to deploy. I hardly ever extend the legs for triple pull tripod rear with a two section.

The dauntless is really nice for PRS and having a center lock, especially any movement where you are "pushing" the tripod. You may not need the locking apex for NRL, but the locking action is super quick. Its usually the dedicated squad tripod for tripod rear with my local PRS matches.

I also do understand wanting to go with a US made brand - I try to do that as much as I can myself. RRS is as good as it gets. The T3 is a tripod made by Leofoto, but has been spec'd out by T3 with his designed center locking apex, larger diameter legs, and thicker carbon if i'm not mistaken.

The 3 section, white carbon fiber, I have not used. Its a little easier to pack, gets up to the same height as the two section. If you're not a fan of the white, a three section black is in the works.

I run a Leofoto inverted tripod for PRS - spotting and rear tripod. I ran into an issue at a NRL Hunter event where I had to engage through a "tunnel" in trees and needed less height than the 2 section could manage - burned a lot of time splaying legs out. 2 section perfect so far for PRS.

Yeah, the only venue ive shot NRL at thus far has a fair bit of that and I end up just glassing/shooting seated/kneeling tripod a lot... until i give in and get a triple pull at least.

I'm pretty sure i'm going to sell my RRS TFCT 24L to fund a gamer tripod and hopefully a smaller/lighter non standing height inverted tripod for hunting. Too many choices/compromises!

PRSTF had those Dauntless tripods as prizes at the VPRC match. They were very nice! (No, did not finish high enough to snag one!)
