I’ve been getting more into long range self taught shooting. I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can. What’s the “proper” way when it comes to rifle in the shoulder with high recoil calibers.
Actively pulling it in to shoulder with trigger hand? Or putting in the shoulder and letting it float?

Yo need to control the rifle, pull it straight back into your shoulder pocket with the bottom three fingers of your trigger hand but don’t apply thumb pressure
Also don’t shoot off a hard front rest, or a bipod off hard ground, the gun will bounce all over the place making it harder to be consistent
A soft bag at the front and one filled harder for the rear is good
With a heavy recoiling gun it really needs bedding and the barrel gap needs to be larger
