I would be interested to hear what some of you do for routine care of your trad bows. What are you doing to make sure your bow will last as long as you want it to? How do you store your bow in and out of season?

I keep my recurves strung 365 days a year. The only time it is unstring is when I have to travel via air, then I take them down and put them in a small hardwired case to check them.

Just make sure it's hung evenly by the string (two pegs) and it should last forever.

Now if you have a all wood self bow, you should unstring after you are done shooting.

If I’m regularly shooting my recurve I keep it strung hanging by the string on two pegs. My longbows I unstring after shooting.

I hang both styles from two pegs evenly. If I’m not shooting them for a while I’ll unstrung them. The majority of mine are takedown models. They fit for travel in the green padded tube from three rivers it works well. Then I have the safari tuff cases for driving trips.

I also every year put a coat of Johnson’s paste wax on them (the whole bow) before the seasonal going afield. It keeps the elements off
