Proper application of leather sealant?

I've done this for years with mixed results. There has got to be a better way. I'm off to AK for a goat hunt in a couple weeks and I hate wet feet. Id like to see better results. What I've done in the past with both Sno Seal and Obenaufs is to warm the boots gently with a hair dryer, and then rub in the paste. What I've found though is it doesn't seem to last very long. Is there something I'm missing in the process? Should I be doing multiple applications? Anything else?

After applying obenaufs let it soak in and dry and then reapply out until it won't soak up anymore. I had a pair of Cabelas gortex boots that leaked bad and I saturated them with obenaufs and I have worked in the wet snow for an entire day without getting wet feet.
