Just about everything already said is good. I’ll add one thing: occasionally do a tough workout two days in a row before taking a rest day.

Think about it. You hunt hard all day at altitude and kill at last light. You wrestle with the carcass in a tough spot after already hunting all day. Then you walk out in the dark with the tender loins in your hunting pack. Now, instead of taking the next day off, you get up early and go back in for a tough pack out on shaky legs.

Get used to doing a tough workout two days in a row before taking a day off.

Thanks guys. I spent a few years in the Corps in an infantry unit, so long hikes and mentally sucking are something I grew accustomed to. I know the mountains are a different beast, and it's just prepare to the best of your abilities and it will suck less, which is what any of us can hope for.
Former 1st Bn 6th Mar over here. Embracing the suck is much easier to do in elk camp than it is in the Corps. I'll be chasing them in Idaho in September. I'll drop you some pins of the bulls we pass up 😄 Semper Fi!
