Premium Tag Advice/Lessons learned

Gotta agree with this. Not your dad's fault you pulled the trigger. I get the disappointment but one of the number one rules of hunting safety is to always verify what you're shooting at. That's on you, not your dad.
Yeah, all I knew was I was shooting the herd bull and he was clear of his cows. But I didn’t know the specifics of him. At that range all I could tell was mature bull and not the rag bull pestering the herd. They move so much rutting that pulling up Binos and switching back to gun seemed limited in value. Not even sure it would have mattered. Once we got the “shooter” message I never once considered questioning it. Never even crossed my mind “what if he isn’t?” From the message on I was a bull seeking missile. I didn’t stop to think critically.

That’s my biggest advice. “Know before you go” because once you’re in kill mode it’s hard to do all the things necessary to get into range of and execute an open sights muzzleloader shot AND be judging the details of a bull. Be sure before you engage or at least be sure you’re not sure as you move in. I never doubted the assessment, as silly as that may sound, it was message to kill mode instantly.

Sad thing is I had passed on going after several good bulls from a distance and when alone didn’t take a tight window shot on what turned out to be an actual shooter just because I was alone and didn’t get a great look at him. I was being careful of being sure just two hours before killing this bull. Even in bang bang situations, until I wasn’t, and then it was all done tag notched.

How did your horses get killed? Car accident I assume. That is traject
One was in a car accident the other old age. We’d always had horses growing up a couple generations of them. I had moved to another state and we didn’t replace that generation. He’s a horse hunter, he doesn’t hunt with anywhere near the same intensity or desire without them.

Don't ever book a hunt in MT with Cody Carr's Hunting Adventures. I will give this free advice to anyone and everyone.

The spotter who made the call “shooter” is also one not to reflect or apologize. My dad. He simply saw the bull and said…. “Well that’s not even close.” Then didn’t apologize or state anything other than it was a long ways away for him and you were closer why did you shoot. Not considering all that goes into shooting a successful shot with open sights in a 20 yard gap of aspens. He watched the bull for two hours and never changed his assessment or added any info. Simply criticized my 10 second window. It’s hard.
Time to take some ownership bud. You are blaming your father for something that isn’t his fault. You are trying to play the victim card, but it is your hunt, your tag and you pulled the trigger. Sucky situation for sure, but its sucky because of your decisions, not your dads.

I spent a lot of money to go to Kyrgyzstan for Ibex. It was a retirement present to myself and was booked by a good friend who posts on here.
Of course I looked at huge Ibex before but I felt the trip was mainly for the experience
On day 4 of 5 I had my first shot opportunity. The translation broke down and I could not work out which Ibex the guide was talking of.
As I looked at what I thought was the one I realised we were busted. In about 2 seconds I computed it was legal and that to pass was incredibly risky.
I shot it. I was happy the guide was disappointed but admitted there were a second from running.
The trophy was about 10% of the whole experience but a blank would have been tough.
