Preferred Hunting Rig

More out of necessity than preference, but i have a Subaru Impreza wagon that i have used to get a ton of game with. 1 moose, 1 bear, 2 muleys, 2 elk, dozens of waterfowl and coyotes... Seats fold flat and can sleep in the hatch. Great mileage. All the gravel and rough roads shredded the body though. Doesnt help that i drove it like a rally car! One elk i arrowed ran into a 5ft tall canola field and after getting the farmers permission i drove in and pulled the elk out with that car. What a chew that was haha

I love these non-conventional hunting rigs. Makes me smile to see somebody getting it done without a full size 4x4 truck or suv.

Definitely get some funny looks when out hunting, but I'll take it over a truck any day. Had the pleasure of hauling 3 cow elk in it during 4th season this year.

No disrespect to anyone, I get that times change but holy cow! The definition of hunting rig sure has changed! I hunted in about 1990 out of a '76 Chrysler Newport with the back seat removed and replaced with plywood and a tarp, then me and a buddy pooled resources and picked up a heavily rusted 4x4 Subaru wagon......that was a game changer, except if you hit the puddles too fast the passenger would get soaked from water coming through the floor. Oh yeah, and between the two of us we owned 2 beagles, and 3 hounds that we would haul in those rigs too. I do not recall either of those rigs being a detriment to filling the freezer and bringing home some fur....I'd go back in time to those days in a second.

All that ramble being said, it taught me to be pretty content with a decent 4x4 pickup im not scared of scratching or denting with excellent tires, a set of chains, and a topper I can take on and off myself along with the best boots i can afford sitting on the seat, I dont overthink it, all the "rig" does is absorb a giant part of your budget and get you close.....the rest is all hunter.

Honestly just curious, but why a prospector?

The 19-21s Ram HDs don't have an option for re-gearing...yet and those 40s will be pretty terrible without it. Not to mention the extra 650#'s over the front axle with that 6.7 vs the 6.4 hemi

Also, no front/rear lockers??

I understand the prospector looks cool, but all you're really buying is a AEV springs (why not thuren?) some Bumpers, winch and wheels/tires and some badging.

You could build a carbon copy of Seguro Offroad's PW for a similar price and have a far more capable vehichle.

Not to be arguemenative, I'm just honestly curious what folks are drawn to in the AEV stuff on an otherwise pretty basic 2500.

Prospector is on 37” the XL is 40”, Most of the ones I’ve looked at were in the 2014-2106 range and I thought you could regear.

There is definitely better suspension, along with all kinds of custom upgrades. To respond to the post, I was thinking along the line of what could be bought ready to roll and have ability to tow/haul as well as perform off road.

I hunt mostly with my feet, but I thought the Prosectors would cover a lot of area in a hunting rig.

I chose my current Tacoma. However I did go elk hunting in a Mini Cooper once. I was looking forward to tying a big rack to the roof of that thing and driving back into California. Unfortunately I was never able to close that deal.

You'll see more tacomas and Tundra's in outfitter camps than any other vehicle in my experience..

After 3 moths of waiting on parts and the closing of the deer season, I finally was able to get my hunting truck done! I guess it gives me a year to get it setup just right.

You bet ya. I appreciate that.

Always wanted a Jeep. And a Jeep with a diesel motor. Chrysler put a 2.8l VM 4 cylinder diesel engine in the Liberty for 2 years in 2005-06.
