I love my Ford Excursion. It's a dedicated hunting/camping rig so I have a sleeper setup in the back for archery season where I may be moving the truck every day or two, but then for late season when the snow is deep I can chain up all 4 corners and blast into my hunting spot through bumper high drifts with my wall tent and enough coolers to haul an elk home. In the winter it gets the dog kennel(s) strapped in for pheasant hunting. It's the trusty old 6.8 V10. I don't tow with it and if I did I would use my diesel pickup. I like the reliability of the gas engine especially when the temps get down to around 0. It just starts and goes every time. I've had 7.3 diesel trucks and while I loved them for what I used them for I much prefer a gasser for a hunting rig. I think I pulled about 4 or 5 trucks and utv's that were stuck during rifle season in Colorado this year. Its a damn tank!!!

Yoy bring up a good point. Cranking a big diesel up after it sat for a week in single digit/teens is a scary proposition, especially if alone and bordline snowed in in the late season.

Yep, I've had that happen to me before. And when you have to jump start a diesel you have to hook up 2 running trucks, one to each battery. At least that's what we had to do with my old 7.3.

I am a 4runner guy through and through. My buddy and I brought 2 Shiras moose home to CA from BC in mine a few years back. Had to add a hitch rack for our soft gear, had 3 150 qt coolers inside the vehicle. Worked fine.

Nissan Titan S, nothing fancy, 4x4 works, put some Billsteins on it. The money I saved vs buying one of the more popular trucks was used for suspension upgrades, gas, and the tent for summer trips and when I don’t need to backpack in. Unpopular opinion but i’ll probably stick with Titans in the future, it’s been a great truck since far!View attachment 361483

I put 280,000 trouble free miles on a first gen Titan. The day I sold it, I’d have driven it across country without hesitation. The interior fell apart and it felt “cheap” compared to other full-size trucks at the time, but the damn thing just kept going and going. I actually almost bought another Titan when I totaled my Xterra, but got a great deal on a 4Runner. Also, the big Nissan dealer here is just slimey and I didn’t feel like playing their games. The one thing I hated about Nissans was their resale value. I picked up my Xterra with 7k miles on it and paid over 10k less than had it been brand new. (Good for me, but sucked for the guy selling it). They have terrible resale but if you can get one where someone else has paid for that initial depreciation, they are great vehicles.

One all around rig money not an issue, I’d go with a RAM 2500 Prospector
Honestly just curious, but why a prospector?

The 19-21s Ram HDs don't have an option for re-gearing...yet and those 40s will be pretty terrible without it. Not to mention the extra 650#'s over the front axle with that 6.7 vs the 6.4 hemi

Also, no front/rear lockers??

I understand the prospector looks cool, but all you're really buying is a AEV springs (why not thuren?) some Bumpers, winch and wheels/tires and some badging.

You could build a carbon copy of Seguro Offroad's PW for a similar price and have a far more capable vehichle.

Not to be arguemenative, I'm just honestly curious what folks are drawn to in the AEV stuff on an otherwise pretty basic 2500.

More out of necessity than preference, but i have a Subaru Impreza wagon that i have used to get a ton of game with. 1 moose, 1 bear, 2 muleys, 2 elk, dozens of waterfowl and coyotes... Seats fold flat and can sleep in the hatch. Great mileage. All the gravel and rough roads shredded the body though. Doesnt help that i drove it like a rally car! One elk i arrowed ran into a 5ft tall canola field and after getting the farmers permission i drove in and pulled the elk out with that car. What a chew that was haha
