Preference on # of pins in your sight

Getting a new sight for my bow. Just wondering what people's preferences are for how many pins they like in their sights, sizes of pins, fixed + adjustable pins, fixed only, etc. and WHY. I've been looking at getting the Black Gold Custom Ascent sight with 2 fixed pins @ 0.019 and a third adjustable @ 0.010. Just wondering what I can learn from the wisdom of others to guide my steps and potentially change my mind :D

Thanks!

I've been shooting a multiple pin sight for many years. Currently the two main sights that I have set up on my hunting bows are an Axcel and an AXT. Both are 5 pin models and all pins are .019. I do enough still hunting that I have found myself up close and personal and don't have time to readjust or move the pin up or down to compensate for the distance difference. Some people find the sight window to cluttered with multiple pins but it works fine for me.

7, I cannot trust myself not to screw up adjusting a slider. Keep it simple. If I ever get a dedicated target bow I will probably put a slider on it.

I set them out to 85, in reality only hunt to 65.

I use .19 for top two and .10 for the bottom five.

Green - Yellow - Green - Red - Green - Yellow - Green. Symmetric pattern with a different color in the middle makes it easier. Red is my 50 and reference from there.

I feel like a five pin slider gives you the proverbial best of both worlds. I run a 5 pin tommy high and love that sight.

2 things..

1. I think that is a great setup! If you do decide to go with more than 3 pins I would take the advice of Elkyinzer and get a symmetrical pattern. I use green green yellow green green.

2. hope you are a S&S Archery insider. If not pm me and let me know!

3 pin on a slider is my style. Don't have to worry about moving it 40 yards and in, and if I don't have time to move it past 40, they're too keyed up to shoot anyway.

I second s&s archery
I personally run the newer MBG ascent verdict in a 3 pin. on a 6" dovetail. green .19, red .19 and green .10, I ordered it with the white ring as well just a personal touch. for me the red pin at .19 has to much of a halo effect and I'm looking to get rid of that pin for probably a .10 yellow pin I like the smaller pins. I love having my sight set up at 20,30,40 fixed pins considering that probably majority my shots will happen in between these ranges, the pins are there and ready to go. just practice on your hold overs for the in between ranges. and obviously having your 40 pin as your floater to shoot your longer ranges. def get the .10 size pin for your floater pin. I really like the 6" dovetail as well being able to create that greater sight radius and match it perfectly with my peep. I highly encourage you to get the MBG ascent sight its great...... I custom ordered mine from S&S archery back in early December and its been awesome to shoot with

MBG, 4 pin slider, all green pins. This will be my third season running this on my chill r and I've been pretty happy with this setup. My bow is at 73lbs and a 29" draw, then with the rock mods I just set my top pin for 30 yards and I'm good to go from 30-60 with out needing to move.

I have been using a 5 pin fixed setup for the last few years (spot hogg real deal), and just switched to a 5pin MBG pure gold 75 slider. I wanted the ability to practice at longer ranges, but hunt with 5 pins and gap shoot as I always have. I also wanted full axis adjustments. I had them custom build a sight with green, green, yellow, green, green in 0.19 top 4 pins and 0.10 bottom. I am now considering selling this sight in favor of a fixed 7, maybe a hogg hunter. 5 pins is usually easy to figure out at crunch time, but 7 might be pushing it. Any thoughts?

I use a 3pin mbg slider and set to 30,40,50 I practice between 10-60yds and don't need to slide till about 70

Thanks everyone for your input, always interesting to see what others prefer and why. I think after looking into things more I'm going to end up going with the MBG 5 pin sight, probably a slider.

Some here have said that the red pins can have a halo effect...anyone else seen this or experienced it with MBG sights and their red pins? For a 5 pin sight I was thinking of going green, yellow, red, yellow, green, or maybe green, yellow, red, green, yellow.

I like a 3 pin slider, and run a CBE tek. I used a one pin for a long time but always got panicked about moving it on game, then went to a 7 pin and just had too much in the way of my sight picture

Got my sight in the mail from S&S today...MBG Ascent verdict 5 pin slider with 4" dovetail. Pins are green, green, red, green, green. Really excited to get it set up and shooting. S&S was great to work with and the sight came super quick...ordered it on monday of this week and it got here in the mail today (thursday). Great service! Thanks S&S!
