I truly believe the 80/20 solution for a general purpose ar-15 is to build your own lower on any receiver of reasonable quality and then buy a
14.5" BCM and pin the muzzle device of your choice. Suppress it. NX8 in NF unimount up top with a surefire Turbo Pro, add a sling if you like. Spend the rest on ammo.
Why?
1) Lowers are personal preference. Ambi safety, bolt catch, mag release, vs not. Charging handle. Stock. Yada yada. By the time you make all these changes you might as well build it. Assembling a lower is a core American life skill and takes under an hour for a first timer.
2) BCMs may be gassy but they are light, reasonably stiff, reasonably accurate, and on the upper end of reliability. Features like the ELW BFH barrels, mk 2 uppers, and decent BCGs are a great deal for the $900 being asked.
IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BUILD A LOWER, you can just source a full carbine from Munition Works. Dale knows how to properly assemble and tune a rifle, and he doesn't charge much for it.
On the other end of this barbell is the world of PRIs, LMTs, etc - but that's been well covered. I feel that the DDs and Geisseles of the world live in this uncanny price valley between this side of the barbell and the other, where not much is being purchased except clout.
