Thoughts on the higher capacity, deeper finned, transmission pans sold by PPE? Solid product that will help cool transmission while towing or not worth it. When I tow with the baby duramax and 10 speed, usually running atound 210-225 while towing my 7500 pound RV - which everyone says is normal in these new vehicles, but if a $300 pan and some extra fluid would keep me 20-40 degrees cooler and help extend transmission life - why not?

I have one on my 06 Duramax and have been happy with it. Never really saw a huge temp drop on the transmission temp with the bigger pan but, i did see a difference when i put a bigger transmission cooler on the front of the truck.

An external cooler would be a much better option as it actually provides a mechanism to cool the fluid. Pans just provide capacity which takes longer to heat up.

PPE is probably sufficient. I’d suggest checking out Banks stuff. They put quite a bit of R&D and science into their products.

I don’t know what transmission you have, but it’s likely designed to run at those temps. Running it under load, with the fluid not up to the designed operating temp, will probably do more harm than good.

I used to have a 10 speed that would shoot up to 250 degrees under the lightest load. Like pulling a 1,000 trailer. It would do all kinds of crazy stuff at 250 but wouldn’t throw a code so the dealer wouldn’t touch it. A local mechanic advised the high capacity finned pan, and it didn’t do anything at all.

The truck ended up hit by a drunk driver so I never got to figure out what was going on.
