Powderhorn wilderness area elk

Don't expect anything specific or too helpful when you come on here as a newb asking for help. Grab a map or Google Earth and start looking at the area. That'll give you plenty to process. I wouldn't focus entirely on the powderhorn. There's a ton of country in 66. Get high and dark. I've hunted the unit a fair bit. Historically, it's pretty warm during first season. You'll be wasting time if you hunt the low, open country. You could get lucky and find a stray, but I wouldn't count on it. I would look at elevations above 10k. There's great access all over the unit.

I cant get there to scout, coming out 4 or 5 days early to scout, thanks for the info, appreciate it, really wondering how dry its been out there and how far elk will travel to get a drink, we both were in a different unit last first rifle but couldnt connect on one, we will be camping at the truck and hiking in
