Powder and primer suggestions for 280ai

I (meaning my coworkers) just about have myself talked into making the jump into reloading. Peer pressure is a bitch.

Looking for powder and primer suggestions. I want to see if I can find the most popular options local.

I’ll be shooting a 24” barrel. Probably play with 140 and 160 Accubonds but open to suggestions there too.

So, give me some suggestions or post up your favorite 280ai loads. Thanks.

Depends on bullet weight and what you want.
160-168 class bullet h4831sc or h1000
175-180 class bullet RL23

Im shooting the 175’ EH out of a 24’ proof at 2950! It’s nasty!

primers I use are 210 gmm

Seems RL26 is hard to find. It may be better to use something more readily available?

You should have bought all they had, I travel 3 states for work and haven't seen any in months.

None are hot loads, I could care less how fast I can push a bullet if it isn't accurate. The 140 GKs shoot a 3/8" group at 200 out of my lightweight Cooper 92 barrel. Just like I said thru PMs, Cooper doesn't recommend even the 168s out of that lightweight barrel because of harmonics and potential for flyers. That's fine with me because those 140 class bullets will kill everything on this continent.

Worth more than gold in some circles. I've got 6lbs or so I haven't even started developing loads with, but I bought it two years or so ago.

I know everyone is in love with RL26 but do yourself a favor and try RL23. It’s very good in the 280ai

I think have seen RL22 mentioned In a few places too. What is the difference in these RL powders? I know I want something temp stable right?

Idk about 22 but 23 is temp stable and much easier to find than 26. Gives awesome speed. I’ve heard 23 is more stable than 26 but I’ve yet to see that with my own eyes so take that with a grain of salt.
