Posting Wounded Game Threads.... What is your opinion?

I am not a fan of defensive tactics and wonder how they would change anything. How many successful shot photos and stories do you think get used on anti hunting sites as ammunition? I would venture to guess many many more than the ones without pics where the animal was never recovered. Would shock value be better with an anonymous story or an anonymous story with multiple pictures of a hunter smiling over the top of a dead animal. One that he just killed?

The anti hunters don't like any hunting or killing, wounding or otherwise. They are not going to change their minds or opinions. They love pictures of cute dead animals with arrow holes in them. Smiling barbarians proudly holding the horns. If you are concerned about the lost animal threads you should be losing sleep over dead animal threads with pictures.

I am a hunter. I kill animals. I enjoy killing animals, if I didn't I would simply take their picture from bow range. I don't and won't apologize for any of this. These characteristics make me the enemy to the anti crowd whether I kill one cleanly in 20 seconds or send one off with an arrow in it that I never find. You don't want to give them ammo then all forums that have anything to do with hunting should be shut down.

As for the question posted. The percentage of hunters intentionally taking marginal shots is very low. Lots of bad judgments and decisions basedin ignorance but intentional recklessness no.

I think the number of low percentage, marginal shots taken by bow hunters is far higher than you think.

They justify it with catch phrases like "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. And "I made it happen".

I don't believe that is true at all. Some people have no respect I believe most know their limitations and try and stay within them. Rifle hunting also has limitations but has a larger area to error and still recover the animal. Than you have people stretching the limits with long range and muzzle loader smokeless powder. In the end the hunter is responsible for the result of pulling the trigger some simply don't take it serious enough no matter what tool they are using

Over all I agree with JMEZ. I could do without the ones that are just looking for a shoulder to cry on and reassurance that "it happens to all of us at some point". However, sometimes the person is really looking for help or trying to understand what happened. Those don't bother me. That said you won't see one from me.......

Squeekie,

I think that a simple, how to article, followed by support from friends, either via PM, email, phone calls, or other contact would be great. I agree that this is a common, human situation, that all of us need to be aware of and try to minimumize, but also one that we need to educate each other on. Ultimately I don't think discussion here is likely to be too beneficial, as unless it is included in the registration email, which few are likely to pay any attention to, many who experience this will need to have a shoulder to cry on or actually need advice. So no matter how it is addressed there will still be posts, and questions, and fuel for the anti-s.

This is a common problem, and nothing we say beforehand will keep us from questioning after it happenes to US. We will naturally seek solace in our peers, try to share and learn, and so my being torn on this issue is likely to not be resolved...

I think a lack of understanding of basic topographical anatomy is the reason for the majority of poor hits. This is very very apparent on most of these types of threads. Many of those chiming in to help are as clueless as the guy that made the shot.

Take others failures as encouragement to do better. Even the best of Archer's can wound and lose game.

The Nuge himself wounded and lost a bear here in Alaska a few years back, however that led to the unlawful taking of another bear.

It happens. It sucks. Only time makes it go away. I wouldn't post it but don't care if others do. I find a bottle of jack and hot shower help. As far as the antis using it... Screw em.
