I am a long time lurker, but never created a profile until recently, primarly to post a classified for a thermal optic. I ran a few searches on previous posts for recommendations for payment options, best practices in the classifieds, etc and found varying opinions on the topic. I wanted to ask the group as a seller what payment form is recommended (PayPal and Venmo is what I've used in the past) and are there additional steps I should take to avoid the scammers and any other potential pitfalls. I read the thread about PayPal and paymnet via echeck which was good info. Anything else along those lines to be aware of to protect myself?

Thanks in advance for any help for a newb.

Sellers aren't the ones getting scammed 99.99% of the time. Accept whatever payment method the buyer wants to use, wait until the money clears the app and enters your bank account before you ship if you want to be extra careful.

This is exactly the information I was looking for.

Thanks!
Same here want to start selling/ buying to get away from eBay fee but little Leery on buying without having the eBay protection.

Paypal does not allow sales or purchases of firearms and firearm related items. Doing so can get your account closed.

On high priced items (many have their own opinion of what amount that is), I suggest going through a broker so the item and funds are released upon approval (Gunbroker does this, or did in the past).

Both sides, seller and purchaser run into scams. Some buyers simply lie about the item (condition or wrong item) back the lie up with actual photos, and get their money back. To defend against this, either film the item being packaged at the shipping facility, until the shipper takes possession (some might not allow it,). Or, have the shipper package it and document the item and condition.
