If you are worried about the lock, retrofit the safe with a Kaba Mas X-10.

For a safe, get a Brown, AMSEC, or Graffunder.

Or, don't worry about it. Liberty makes over priced toys anyway (along with most companies that sell "gun safes").
This is the answer if you want a real safe and not a locking cabinet. There is nothing wrong with a locking cabinet as long as you are aware that’s what you’re purchasing. They will slow someone down, that is it. Fire rating, pretty colors, size, from the locking cabinet manufacturers are useless if you’re looking for an actual safe. Have to weigh the cost/benefit of stepping up to a real safe though, they don’t always make sense.

If you want a real safe...skip "gun safes" and look for DEA approved safes. Yes they are heavy and yes they are expensive.

Go with whatever floats your boat. And if you feel the need to "stick it to the man", have a 3rd party locksmith change the lock out for you.

What safe would you buy ?
I hate to swim against the tide on a good conspiracy theory but honestly, if the government wants to get in your safe, they will. Codes, saws, torch. They will.

fwiw I am a graffunder fan But I would buy a liberty as well. I really think of a safe as (1) child proofing, and (2) a deterrent to casual Thieves. Beyond that, the more money you spend, generally the longer it would take for a serious theif or an LEO to get in. You wont stop them, it’s just a matter of how much you can slow them down.

Sounds like I should keep propping my long guns in the corner of the room. Or, get one of those old fashioned wood gun racks for the wall.
Keep all my hoppes gun cleaning supplies on the bottom shelf like granddad did.

I went with zanotti armor. Decent price and the build in place is great for mobility. Not fire rated, but do know some one who had one that went through a fire. It did protect the guns and documents. As they are made locally, I picked it up and saved shipping.

We bough safes that came with keys if the pads failed. Just not wanting full electronic or full mechanical.

Liberty never should have done that.

I think a lot of people should sit down and do a bit of threat modeling. What are you trying to protect, and what is the value? What/who are you trying to protect if from? Can it be insured? What are you willing to spend to cover the gap that insurance doesn't cover?

If the US gov is on your threat list, then you probably need more then an off the shelf "residential security container". But, if you are just trying to keep your kids or maybe the neighborhood meth head out of your stuff, it doesn't take much, and the manufacturer having backup codes matters a lot less.
