PopUp 28 MODS

Anyone mod their PU28 at all? I readjusted the straps to have the pack carry closer to the frame. I plan on putting a grommet in one of the side pockets for bow rope/Doyle’s, as I mostly hunt whitetail.

Anything else someone has thought of that has been worthwhile? Packs, lids, etc?

Can you describe this or include pictures? It's been my main gripe w/ the pop up series with how the pack connects to the frame so loosely.

I put a kifaru duplex belt on mine amd that made a world of difference. I have helped pack out 2 bulls , loads were around 90 lbs. Felt great.
I strap the meat in the shelf with the strapd that got to the bag . Then I have 4 extra straps that I reconnect the bag to the frame straps with g hooks. That way thevbag isnt compressing the meat to hold it in place.
This works great

How did you add the g hooks? I haven’t had a load out it in yet so I’m not going to switch the belts but I’ve heard that is most peoples complaint

I have changed it up since then so these are simulated pictures.
I had the G hooks threaded on the compression straps of the frame so they sat like this

There is another thread around here about looping the top buckles over that cross bar. Same result, it Carrie’s better. I went from a gen 1 28 to a gen 2 38 to get enough room for my layers. I like the idea of modding the hip belt, but haven’t carried mine as much based on the whitetail hunting I have done the last 2 years being closer to my truck.

if they made a detachable lid version or if someone came up with a way to mod so that the lid could “float” on straps, I would probably be a buyer. I have strapped a Pad or bulky clothing on top once or twice and it pushes the lid toward my neck/head.

I am a bit cautious about adding weight to it though. Another pound or two and it will weigh as much as my pintler.

I think I saw on this forum someone added the guide lid to the top and it looked OK. Added weight would be the only concern I’m guessing? But with the option of removing the lid from MR you could take it off and run it as a small pack with the included straps
