Just received a mytrailco poncho tarp in the mail today. I do not know if it will make it into my kit for this fall but at $50 I could not resist. First look it is lighter than my rain gear or shelter at 7.4 oz. I am planning for archery in one of the more arid eastern Idaho ranges which one could typically cowboy camp 5 or 6 nights a week. So this little poncho tarp could work. Anyone have experience with something similar?

I keep a golite or a cuben poncho with me on all my trips. Ill either sit out a storm or wear it if I need to keep moving. I usually have a piece of cordage to string up a makeshift shelter if I sit out a storm.

I have a lot of nights under a GI poncho. Just picked up a gatewood cape from six moon designs. It is more of a shelter that can be used as a poncho. Door zippers, guy out lines etc. it is going in my kit to replace a glassing / emergency tarp. It could also be a shelter but it is a tight fit for me and gear. Maybe a spike camp rig.

Its one piece of gear I always have and frequently use. A great lightweight multifunctional piece. I use a zpacks ground sheet poncho.

Your accounts are re-assuring. I will test the poncho in the next couple of weeks as it is lighter than my rain gear. It might even make it as my shelter as I see myself cowboy camping most nights. I will be trying out an 8.5 X 8.5 tarp as a shelter option also. Climate does not call for a heavier shelter in September.

The poncho tarp + 8.5x8.5 tarp can be used in conjunction to give you plenty of room.

I have a poncho tarp but it sits in my gear box most of the time being in CO. But there have been some rainy hunts in the past that inspired it so its a piece of insurance gear. If the weather report is calling for lots of rain I'll pack it along so I can sit on a glassing hillside wearing it (or pitched as a tarp).

Great little piece of gear for sure. I used to have one of the original Golite poncho tarps and used it a bunch just to pitch and glass from when the weather was bad.
