Poll - One all around single cartridge under conditions

We shot a 25-06 for years on a variety of game. Nice bull elk, mule deer, whitetail, antelope, mountain goat. Combined technologies 115 grain killed them all nicely.

Son just used a suppressed 6.5x47(6.5 creedmoor twin) suppressed with 18" barrel on nice mountain mule deer at 300 yards. 140 vld doing 2,550 at the muzzle. Same load and gun on a bull elk at 400 yards a few years earlier. Big black bear at 400 yards as well.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I'd chop your current stuff and buy a good quality suppressor.

I already have 3 suppressors. 2x30 cal and 1x5.56.

Based on your inputs, and a buddy of mine, after deer season, I am going to play with different bullet weights and loads in my 280 AI. If I can get the recoil down where it is comfortable for deer hunting and practice, then upload for a possible elk hunt (still within my area of comfort), I may just be keeping it and selling off the majority of my other rifles.

Question for all of you wise folks - Should I shoot my never before shot Tikka Ace Game 6.5 PRC just to see what the recoil is like, or based on my thought of not keeping it, sell it as like new. Do you think it being shot a few times will reduce the value by a lot?

You have probably already lost a percentage of the money just by taking it home. But, if you are reasonably sure you want to sell it, I wouldn’t shoot it.

If you list it as unfired, that is better than “fired a few times.” If someone lists a rifle as unfired, I assume they are telling the truth about it (and can easily verify that fact). If someone lists a rifle as “used” or “only fired it a few times”, I sort of half expect it to be shot out and discount my offer accordingly.

One thing ill add, Ryan M @ vortex raves about the performance of Barnes 130gr VOR-TX TTSX as a really great lower-recoiling option in .30, currently they only offer that bullet in factory ammo in .308. Could be worth looking at their factory ammo or loading your own. I think hes used it on everything you are looking to hunt and has been very pleased with the results.

He told a story about someone("a very petite female") at Vortex using it on a Bison hunt with a very skeptical guide and according to the story, it folded a cow like you would expect a heavier, "more powerful" round to do.

This is an under rated round especially out of a suppressed 308. Can be very accurate as well
