I hate this law so much. I’ve lost count of how many belugas I’ve seen killed by natives and left on the beaches.Never realized they were a part of that, I knew there were some in Alaska but just figured it was a small enough population they couldn’t justify a hunt or something. Learn something new every day

It goes like this:
You log into Facebook and see a post “we got a beluga on the beach, come get some meat”. You go to the beach, there’s an entire beluga laying there with one old lady cutting a modest slice off. The rest of the beluga rots away. On Facebook you see a post of a few guys out in their boat killing seals and belugas (same guys who left it on the beach).
These laws just make it ok for natives to kill whatever they want. Nobody is subsisting off beluga, seal, seagull eggs and shit like that in 2026.
