Polar Bears

Never realized they were a part of that, I knew there were some in Alaska but just figured it was a small enough population they couldn’t justify a hunt or something. Learn something new every day

I hate this law so much. I’ve lost count of how many belugas I’ve seen killed by natives and left on the beaches.

It goes like this:

You log into Facebook and see a post “we got a beluga on the beach, come get some meat”. You go to the beach, there’s an entire beluga laying there with one old lady cutting a modest slice off. The rest of the beluga rots away. On Facebook you see a post of a few guys out in their boat killing seals and belugas (same guys who left it on the beach).

These laws just make it ok for natives to kill whatever they want. Nobody is subsisting off beluga, seal, seagull eggs and shit like that in 2026.

Wow that inuit hunters of the day page is awesome, check this outView attachment 1008619
220 swift. so rad

Bet you a dollar they took the skull, hide etc and threw the rest in the dumpsters around town.

I was up in Barrow Alaska a few years ago and there was a whale hunt going on, all these people were acting like it was this tradition that defined the people, well the whole town stunk to high hell because people were pulling out all the frozen whale they didn’t eat from the year before and chucking it into dumpsters. Apparently the school had to close because all the dumpsters they had were full of rotting whale meat to the point t people couldn’t even walk near it.

Anybody remember when @Larry Bartlett was up there giving a presentation, if I recall, there was no shortage of wasting meat available to make his point get across. Of course the locals made excuses for that too.

Just like tribes in the lower 48 hunting with treaty rights, only to turn the meat into jerky and sell it
