I wish the punishment for poaching any animal was far more serious than what most states allow.

People who do stuff like this also are involved in other crimes.

Absolutely. People do it because to them, the risk is worth the reward. Punishment needs to be significantly higher. It undermines the whole damn thing when crap like this happens. Pisses me off to no end.

Look at someone like Greentree even. Dude pleads guilty to poaching, most sponsors drop him, but the dude can still travel around and hunt all the private ranches and "DIY backcountry solo etc etc" places he wants. Make it a penalty to where, if you're caught poaching, you cant ever hunt again period in the United States.

I am currently involved with trying to help catch a group who has been baiting elk for years. Found the 1st site and have found 15 others like it. I even met the group though not realizing it at the time. It was sick- there was the young guys just out of high school learning poaching from their uncles and dads.
One thing the game officer said really stuck with me about game laws. "There aren't very many of them, you would think people would follow them."
There is nobody looking over our shoulders out there. Sure, we all have that thought- man, I could arrow that deer and no one the wiser. But we don't arrow that deer we have no tag for. We don't shoot a bull elk under the full moon. We don't trade up after killing a lesser trophy when The Toad walks out broadside at 20 yards.

We don't do that stuff because we have self-respect.

What are they doing with the baiting?

Are you in contact with the warden?

Killing elk over bait. Oh yeah. I was advised to keep most of the details but yes in contact.

I find it interesting that Greentree pimps Kifaru so hard now.

I was under the impression that Kifaru was one of the first ones to drop him. There are a couple "industry guys" near where I live...they said that Greentree was dropped by all sponsors with the exception of Accubow. Aron has even bashed him a few times on Kifarucast

What is that statement meant to imply?
Not implying anything. Just weird that I never saw him posting Kifaru stuff until more recent times. I'm not big on Greentree so I could've missed stuff from before his incident? Just seems like now he tries to fit it into every post/story. Like he's trying to get back in.

I had been meaning to post a poaching question to the forum. As a guess, what percentage of animals taken by western hunters are taken in 100% compliance of the law? I'm afraid it might be a lot lower than I'd have previously believed.

Intent was trying to post if any CO hunters had information on. The incident they could help the investigation.

I think most hunters are good people and do the right thing.

If this wasn’t the right forum I’ll delete the post. The thread has been hijacked anyway.

Tough question.

I can tell you in 30 years of deer and elk hunting in Utah, Montana, Idaho and Colorado, only one time do we not tag a deer. Bullet hit two deer with one shot.

Now I do know of numerous times where people fill a tag for someone else. Generally someone who can't go very far up the mountain. Illegal? Hell yes.
