PMR 30

Is it possible to quantify "loud AF"? Compared to what? Can't be the loudest.
Huh? What?…. 😁 There was a guy at the range with a 357 snubby today that was, to my ears and through doubled ear protection, significantly louder. I do feel like it was louder than my G19 though. I think most people expect less noise because it’s a rimfire, but I can’t give you anything quantitative.

I think the thing I was most pleasantly surprised about from today was that I went through 400 rounds of cheap bulk 22 WMR ammo without a misfire. That has not been my experience with 22 LR.

My PMR30 and Ruger single six with the 22mag cylinder in shooting 22mags are easily the two loudest firearms I personally have shot and that includes my 4in S&W 500. It would be interesting to see how they meter compared to a centerfire handgun and if they even are as loud. I don't know if it's just the pitch but 22mags in revolvers and pistols, to my ears, is painful if I don't have a good set of well fitting ear protection on or in my ears. I shot a 17 HMR revolver many years ago and it was a loud af little bastard too.

I'm guessing it's the extra unburnt powder of the 22mags in shorter barrels that makes them so much louder then a standard 22lr. I have a M&P 22lr Compact that has a shorter barrel than either of my 22mag handguns and it is substantially quieter even shooting CCI Stingers.

I like the little beastie enough to give it a holster. Bought this thing primarily as a camp gun that my wife and daughter can easily shoot, and as a gun to help keep my bird dogs out of trouble with toothed mammals when hiking and hunting. Seems to fit that bill pretty well. Very happy with the reliability thus far, even with cheap bulk ammo. The darned thing is so much fun that I may have to buy another for my wife and daughter to use.

It came from a company called On Your 6 that I have no prior experience with. It’s a simple OWB pancake type. The quality is quite good. The only thing I’m not so fond of is that they molded in the pic rail, which results in a slight motorboat sound when you draw it. Still considering a chest holster for use with a pack.

Of all the guns we have the PMR30 is easily my wife's favorite to shoot. She's not all that in to guns like my daughter or I am and if you asked her which is her favorite to shoot she couldn't tell you its specific name. She would just say it's that weird looking one that has a really big bang! lol

My wife is about the same with respect to interest in and knowledge of guns, although she used to help quarter and pack game and still helps butcher. The PMR30 is, hands down, my ugliest gun. And it’s definite a loud little beastie.

I picked up a simple chest holster for the little beastie. Nothing fancy or expensive. It seems to ride pretty well behind my Marsupial Gear bino harness. I suspect most people on the trail won’t even notice I have it on. It’s a really nice, light-weight set up.

It was a guy in WA who sells his stuff off Etsy and EBay under dkholstersllcom. There aren’t a lot of options out there for PMR30 chest holsters. He did a nice job with it, and it was about half the cost of a gunfighter chest holster.
Awesome thank you!

Awesome thank you!
Only negative was that it has an open muzzle end that is roughly flush with the muzzle. Given that it will mostly be behind my bino harness, I don’t see it as a huge negative. It does cover the front sight though.

Mine is having issues w failure to chamber. Not sure if it’s the mag loading issue or ammo quality issue. I’m sure I can figure it out, otherwise seems promising.

How many rounds through it? And what ammo?

150-200 rounds through it. Winchester of some variety, I’d have to look when I get home. I can smack the back of the slide and get it to chamber when it happens.

KelTec recommends 40 gr or heavier bullets. I’ve run close to 1000 rounds through mine so far and only had 3 FTF. Those occurred after shooting 350+ rounds in a single string without cleaning. I sprayed the gun down with carb cleaner and it ran flawlessly after that. Have not cleaned the bore other than using carb cleaner. I was also shooting the cheapest bulk 50 gr ammo I could get (Federal 50 gr HP BYOB 250 round bottles). I’ve also shot CCI 40 gr SP and Speer Gold Dot 40 gr HP through mine without any hiccups. Here’s a link to the bulk Federal ammo.

120 rounds rapid with 12 FTF
Winchester 40gr super X
Not betting my life on this stuff, will try some of the gold dot and maybe what you suggested next. Letting finger out to reset trigger confused me vs ftf a couple times
