So Travis I'm on my phone and it's a little hard to tell. It looks like there's more ice in the tray–less cooler, but is that because the water bottles are under the ice?

Yes that is correct, but it could be a trick of the eye, we will find out soon! The water bottles do sit up higher.

The one thing that the tray does and the intended use is to keep stuff out of the water! That's what it's doing so far.

Here is Day 2 of a "6 day xtreme" ice chest.

The one on the left has the tray in it. Tomorrow I believe will be a defining day as far as ice retention. I'm giving the tray a benefit of the doubt as it is elevating its contents and could be playing a trick on the eyes. We will see!

I didn't get to the coolers in time, they both melted on me enroute to our next location on our trip. I will say the cooler tray sucked up a 20lb bag of ice. I bet even a little more would fit under the tray.

As far as drink temperature, they are noticeably warmer in the cooler tray but not a ton. I can tell the difference as well as other folks.

I apologise cooler tray/Robby for slacking in posting my report. I had a chance to use the cooler tray on a couple over night trips but was waiting until I got a longer trip in.
The cooler tray seems to work as designed and keeps the ice and contents and melted ice water separate. This is important for me since I usually have my coolers packed into a trailer where it's a pain to pull them and drain them.

I'm conducting a test to compare the temperature of drinks submerged in ice and melted water vs. ice/cooler tray with no water.

test coolers are both Coleman extreme 70 quarts. 16 cans of soda and 3 water bottles.

each has 20lbs of cubed ice.

Checked both coolers today after leaving them with full sun exposure.

Drained and measured each water level.
No tray had a gallon plus 3lbs 2oz

Cooler tray had a gallon plus 5lbs 1oz

This puts the melt water almost dead even with tray. Suspect by the next check water will be above the tray guess we'll see.

***Returned all water into thier respective cooler after measurements were taken***

Ok both coolers didn't do great e with ice retention, so I just wieghted the remaining ice.
