Was it about a year ago that some fire rolled into a town in Colorado and a few thousand people ran for their lives with no notice at all?

I am REALLY hoping that this thread can devolve into a discussion of the fabled "bug out bag". When society suddenly has a complete breakdown in less than 60 seconds, one can action roll out of their truck and scamper off into the woods wearing this magic backpack - thereby leaving their home, supplies, and all other useful tools behind. Just something to consider while showering with a pistol.

Maybe you have a BHA post you can follow.

And yeah, like the guy above mentioned, I live a mile away from thousands of households worth of people along with hundreds of businesses that had to flee with close to zero notice.

Yeah, in that case your bug out bag should be a computer, close, pictures, family heirlooms, etc. Different than the sky is falling crowd…

Beans, bullets, and bandaids.
Stuff that’s always good to have plenty of.

A vest could be good, can be low key, serve multiple purposes, ect…I kind of think NVG’s or a thermal scope could be key if things go Red Dawn or Walking Dead on us. Assuming you can supply/charge the batteries. They also can be low key and serve multiple uses if you hunt predators, hogs, ect.. depending on local laws.

Not sure on the helmet. Not aware of how well they survive a hit, and by what. Don’t expect you’ll be dodging grenades and falling rubble, but maybe.

Hypothetically speaking, how many 12oz beer cans can be packed in a plate carrier vest? Seems like a reasonable use for one.

once you’ve maxed out the beer carrying capacity, is there any room left for a couple of packs of smokes?

I bought the AR500 Veritas PC and tactical belt. PC carries one sidearm, belt carries two more. I have lots of gear I will likely never use because I recognize that SHTF once people stop being fed for longer than a day. I was taught it's better to have it and not need it. Then BLM came to town (June 2020) and suddenly all the cowboys turned out wearing armor, sidearms and packin' ARs while escorting the "parade" through our small town on horseback. Once downtown, those protesting pinheads stayed in tight formation for fear of having their toes crushed by a horse. I was one of the folks on the roof ready to defend my boarded up business...using gear I never figured I'd wear IRL. Those who own neighboring businesses keep thanking me and they look at me differently now. Probably don't see many seniors in tactical wear. LOL

I've been around a while, I see more potential for societal collapse now than at any previous time during my life. Like I said, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I put it in the same category as having a 12K genset for home, a cache of full fuel cans, inventory of the basics (food, water, ammunition, meds, TP, etc.) and invested in quality SD/3G and tactical first aid training just in case. I don't "worry" about things I cannot control, I take solace in knowing I have done what I can.
