Plant id?

Anyone recognize this plant? Sierra foothills of California. About 1300 ft elevation. About 7ft tall. 1.5” thick bright red stocks at the base.

I tried the “seek” plant id app with poor results.

Yep definitely pokeweed. You can make Poke Salad out of that early in the spring new growth but then it turns deadly
 
Thanks everyone! My folks have been here since 1992 and this is the first time it’s showed up on the property.
 
Again, pokeweed but don't eat it. Just like most every plant including the ones you've been told are good for you....are not. Most all plants are made for ruminant stomachs of which you do not have. However, those plants and ruminants do create meat for you that is perfect for your stomach.
 
As stated above, pokeweed. One of the weeds mentioned in several soybean seed production contracts as the berries can make it through conditioning equipment and into the bag. Just so you know. Lol
