I'm a BC hunter, and don't fully get the big up roar that some other hunters are making over the guide allocations. As residents we have opportunity to hunt almost all our game every year if we want to. That said for goats in BC there are a number of options for guides. I'd start with the GOABC website. If you are driving from the western states I'd suggest the Kootenays or potentially somewhere in the interior near Prince George. If flying in I'd aim for a guide that operates from one of the larger airports, Prince George, Smithers, Fort St. John or Calgary Alberta. Figure out what part of the province you want to see and go from there. There is good goat hunting in most parts of the province.

Thanks Salix , I'm really looking at smithers hard and leaning toward Copper Outfitters and Babine. Both seem like great outfits with big goats . I don't think I can go wrong there but does anyone else have any input ?

If you are still looking for an outfit contact Mark Warnke at outdoors international (gothunts.com). He is a hunt consultant and has some awesome goat guys to get you what you are after. This service is free as they take their cut from the outfit as a referral fee.

I live in the Prince George area and am in the midst of planning my first goat hunt. I am not really able to recommend any outfitters because to be honest I really don't know who is out there and who is good. I can tell you that if I was coming from out of BC to hunt goats it would be in the coast range (anywhere around terrace and up the Stewart cassiar highway). I don't really know anything about the kootenays for goats other than they are down there. I know that there are good genetics and a good population of goats between smithers and Prince Rupert. Hope this helps.

Matt I hunted with Babine in 2012 and will be returning this year to hunt goats again. I can't say enough good things about them. If you have any questions just ask.

Most people don't factor in the logistics for hunts like this. When you hunt with Babine you are two commercial flights in then two hour or less truck ride away and only a 4-6 hour hike to get into the alpine and goat country. The day after you fly in you could potentially shoot a goat by noon. It really cuts the cost of a hunt down when you don't have to do bush planes or pay extra for the outfitters to supply horses and wranglers. Nothing wrong with bush planes or horses because with them you do really feel like the only person to ever step foot in that area.

Any of the outfits along the Babine or the Stikine would be good bets for quality animals. Another place you might look at is Moon Lake. That would be a flight to Whitehorse YT then a fairly short float plane trip back into BC. I've hunted that area for sheep and did see quite a few good goats as well. We (my wife and I ) have taken a couple of goats off the Stikine River as well as the west side of the Kechika River- I think that might have been the western fringe of Scoop Lake Outfitters area.

In all fairness, the outfitting industry is a lrge part of our BC heritage, we need to learn to work with the Outfitters, and not all of them are part of the bullshit happening with GOABC. I do believe the GOVT and GOABC are slowly taking oppurtunity from residents, however, its pretty clear BC still has some of the best hunting in the world. I can buy OTC tags for almost anything, 3 species of sheep, goat, muley, whitey, elk, bears, caribou, moose etc.

Hope you come to BC, shoot a cranker goat and go with a reputable outfitter that is Canadian owned with Canadian Guides. Best of luck

Well fair enough just seemed a little rash.

He obviously lost his temper and got a little harsh because a few people made comments before they looked into what they were talking about.

For the record I would like to comment on what axel was saying though. I to am a BC resident and he wasn't lieing when he said there is an uproar from the resident hunting community based on the new allocation policy. It effects far more then 60 animals and is really about residents wanting to fix a broken system. Wether you are a BC resident or not this should hit close to home allocating 25-40% of species to guide outfitters is not right. There are many differing opinions out there on what the residents would like to see but generally a 90-10 split would be awesome. The GOABC went about this in a very greasy manner and lobby'd the provincial government and donated large amounts of money to campaigns to get what they wanted wether it was right or not so naturally residents are besides themselves at the moment.

I don't believe BC residents will be aggressive or ignorant to American hunters on guided hunts are fight is not with you and the doors are wide open. We are all hunters alike! I do feel there will be a lot of tension between the outfitters and the residents and it might be wise to put your plans on hold until this is worked out for that reason. And more then anything the root of this problem is the outfitters are claiming bankruptcy all in a time that our wildlife is at an all time low and feel taking from the residents is the fix. In reality we should be working together to get wildlife management back on the map and game populations on the rebound. So be very careful if you are going to book a hunt in BC right now the vast majority of BC is not at a peak for hunting quality but an all time low.

I don't have any issue with people disagreeing with a governments policy's in regards to tag allocations, I also don't mind be asked for support to try to change policies and tag allocations.
I do have problem when someone starts threaten other people's hunts which is just what was inferred.

In my mind the mods did right giving him the boot.
