Planned sleep system, what do you think?

What are you sleeping on with the quilt? A pad? Inflatable pad? Anything between you and the pad? Can you use just the top quilt comfortably on an inflatable pad?

When we shared the quilt, we were each on our own thermarest prolate short pad (the ones we use in the red chairs you may have seen photos of). These are our "unplanned night away from main camp" pads. We also each had puffy coats and pants to sleep in when we shared. The width of the quilt is plenty wide for both of us sleeping next to each other, but we do get occasional drafts when one person moves.

On nights where we used our own quilts we were usually using our neo air short pads. Either way you sleep directly on the pad with the quilt overt the top. Depending on the conditions I was either wearing all my puffy clothes too, or sometimes just my merino base layers (depending on temps).

So no problem with drafts while sleeping in your separate individual quilts?

No, when sleeping under our individual quilts I didn't notice any issues with drafts. The quilts were of ample width to tuck underneath me or even my pad, and the included straps kept everything secure so the edges didn't gape if I moved or rolled over.

I obviously can't speak for them but personally I think temp ratings and warmth requirements are going to be very personal. For instance, I am a very warm sleeper. A couple weeks ago I was doing a quick test in my yard when the temps were right around 25*. I had my SL5 set up and had a 30* RevX quilt and XLite pad in a TiGoat bivy. Just wearing merino pants and long sleeve top and some Darn Tough socks, I was cooking in that quilt, easily napped for an hour and a half and woke up sweating. For me, I could have probably gotten away with no merino and been fine in a 30* quilt with temps below 30*. But again, it all depends on personal preferences, how you sleep, what temps you are currently acclimated to, etc. I am pretty confident that I could be comfortable down close to single digits or beyond with 30* quilt, base layers and some puffy insulation.

If you don't have the ability to do some testing then I would probably lean more towards bring extra warmth as you can always vent your bag/quilt if you get too warm but you will be miserable if you can't stay warm.

Yep. I'm inquisitive about the quilts, but would only lose 1lb 2oz over my long wide Slick 0 degree bag. But that's still 1lb 2oz. I might consider one of these anyway. Worst case scenario my wife uses it on the couch.:D

Is there some sort of Rokslide discount on the quilts? Seems like I remember seeing that somewhere, but can't remember where. Thanks. I'm ready to order one up.

Ditch that bag. Froze my ass off in that thing at 35 degrees. Cats Meow is one bag I would never recommend.
I concur. Bought one of these a few years back cause somebody swore by it. I about swore at it! Thanks goodness Campmor took it back! I then used the credit to buy a Mt Hardwear UltraLamina 15. Its been a great bag the the last 4-5 years. These quilts are intriguing...

There was one but I seem to remember that it was limited in quantity. Still, worth a shot. ROKSLIDE was the code.

So with the quilts, is the end open, or is it closed around your feet? It wraps around your sleeping pad? This sounds pretty sweet. Anyone tried the Enigma 10 degree?

Mike I figured you just threw down some straw and hung out with the mice in your castle for a sleep system :)

Naaa.......in the Ritz Canvas I have a WAY oversized cot, 3" foam pad, then another 3" of the egg shell foam on top of that, then my 6lb fill Quallofil oversized bag. It's like sleeping at the real Ritz........comfy!!:D

I've got about 50 nights in the Ultralamina 15 and I am very impressed, especially considering what I paid for it. I've slept down to low 20's with it and been comfortable, but that was with merino tops and bottoms, wool socks, and a wool hat. I will, however, be handing it down and upgrading to a EE RevX 20 wide once I unwrap it from under the tree.

I have a cats meow and have slept in it below freezing and been warm but I'm a warm sleeper. I would give it a passing grade but not a top of the line bag by any means. The meow was pretty slippery on my thermarest lite and I would find myself slid off the pad and at the bottom of my tent.? It's not quite as wide as I would like and am thinking of getting a z packs quilt or a big Agnes where the pad goes inside. down bag. Maybe a 30 deg if I get a tipi. Will keep the meow for trips when the forecast looks wet but I don't see that being a problem with a tipi and stove especially if I get a light weight bivy.

I picked up a mountain hardware 15 degree ultralamina for 139.00 bucks today at sierra trading post. Pretty stoked about it. Packs down nicely and seems to be well made. We'll find out this next year.

I think im going to stick with the SL2 and maybe see how it sets up without poles (suspended by paracord).

The Sl-2 will work for you just fine...I used one for a couple years when going Solo or ultalight with my wife. Not huge or super UL, but sure leaves $$$ left over to actually go hunt or buy other items.

And considering I still need a good pack (using an ILBE right now) Im going to need the $$$$$$....oh plus buying a home too (for some reason my wife seems to think that's more important than hunting gear....crazy I know)

PLUS, Im going to lose about 10lbs by hunting season, and that's probably the cheapest weight I could cut. I'm currently about 208lbs at 6'1 and 12-13% body fat. It blows my mind that people will worry about ounces on their gear, but carry 20% body fat and not think twice about it.
