Anyone running 15,25,35 or 10,20,30 for Treestand Whitetails? I’ve always ran 20 30 40 on my black gold slider but 40 it’s a bit of a poke 22 feet up.

Run them how ever makes you comfortable.
I had a friend that he would take a new sight, weather it be 3 pin or 7 and he would space the pins equally in the housing and then start at whatever distance the first was set at and move back shooting untill he found where the second pin hit in the center, then to the thrid and so on.
His might be 17,24,29,32 or whatever.
He is a hell of a shot too. but he was always able to remember which each was for.
Me If im using a multiple pin setup it starts at 20 and goes up for every 10 yards

I always started at 25. 14-18 yards is usually a highest point, so if you used a 15 it would probably be the top of the arc to say 25. Probably wouldn't have much pin gap from 15-25, unless a heavy setup.

Never saw an advantage personally to have a pin that close. Worst case was 25 in bottom 1/3 would put it in there at 16 yards.

Interesting. This backs up your theory.

I skimmed it.

Plenty of online calculators available, Archers Advantage has a good one.

Look up the article here about a trick pin, it's same principle and you can use the idea to set fixed pins as well.

Here's the article:

Unless you have a slow bow, there’s not much reason to have a pin below 30 yards. Set on 30yards I can shoot to 40 yards and still hold on the deer.

I’ve seen the trick pin thing mentioned online a few times. Always seemed like a terrible idea to me.

I’m shooting over 300FPS, so I moved my first pin to 27, my second pin to 40. My unneeded third pin is .10 and is my rover at 50. The more research I did, basically if you shoot a fast bow the 20 yard pin is irrelevant.

I'm shooting 285 fps and set my sight up exactly like yours have ad it that way for 5 years or so. Agree that the average compound set up has zero need for a 20yd pin for hunting.

you must be a midwestern hunter. In Archery, I've shot the majority of deer sub 20 yards.

25 years ago I was shooting 520g arrows and 230 fps with a 31"draw.. my pin sets were 15, 25, 35. I used that 35 yard pin 1x
now I'm shooting 520g arrows at 290fps. I'm set at 20 and 35 and my slider gets me to 125. I don't reckon I'll be using my 35 yard pin much this year and certainly won't be dialing anything till I get out west
