From last fall. Decker packsaddle. If you look close, I'm not quite centered. Had an awkward load but she was balanced and made the 4 miles to base camp with no problems.

Hunting "with" stock can be fun at times, trying at times and a downright ADVENTURE MOST of the time - It's a big responsibility to take on and much more work than most folks ever dreamed it might be - It will make a better hunter out of you AND a better person if you take the moments to appreciate what that livestock is doing for you - patience IS a virtue and there is often a fine line separating good stockmanship from abuse, best to learn that line and heed it - I've watched several die on the trail while working their heart out but there is nothing more satisfying than becoming good with livestock AND a good hunter at the same time - "Cowboys" rule ......

Some of the best advice I've read on this new forum- thanks

8 day hunt. Elk were almost nonexistent. Rain was miserable, but was able to connect on a little six point Bull and even called in a mountain lion, that we weren't able to connect on. Anyway my first horse packout was great.

Not much of a load and unfortulately we didnt get any horn to pack but here is my big Mule packing lunch and a bow and my hunting partners new mule. Hes riding him for the 3 rd time, His name is Bullet. Early AZ Elk hunt. All the animals did great and we had a very good hunt trip.

Made a quick 4 day trip in on horses and a mule hunting archery elk on my dad's hunt here in southern utah a couple weeks ago. We had a good time but didn't come back with a bull. I'll be back in 2 weeks hunting spikes and cows with a rifle.

Ever since I got my first summer job in college packing for an outfitter in Idaho, I've loved taking stock into the mountains.

This was my classroom in the summer of 1993..

Sometimes it is just easier to pack an elk back to camp on your saddle horses.

By 2011 we had figured out how to do a gutless quarter. Dad carried a saddle pannier, I just carried 50 ft of rope. (barrel hitched hind quarters)
