Hey folks, thought I’d do a quick little intro here as I’ve just started selling some of my custom knives.

I’ve been making knives now for around 3 years. I originally got interested in them because of my work as a biological technician in NW Colorado, where I would perform necropsy’s on hundreds or deer, elk, pronghorn, you name it. This is where I discovered most knives seemed overbuilt to me. This took me down a rabbit hole of seeking information on what made a good cutting knife. I realized quickly there wasn’t very many thinly ground knives available, with refined heat treats to support these thin edges. It also made me start thinking about what makes a good field dressing pattern, as I thought the standard drop point was lacking.

I started making knives because I wanted to provide thinly ground/well heat treated knives to people at a reasonable cost. I use primarily 14c28n @ 62 HRC and some magnacut.

I’m more active on Instagram @deerrockknives if you want to keep up there. Here’s a few photos of my stuff.

Thanks,
Greg

Yep, should be fun and last me awhile.

I love mosaics they add a little flair. Nothin wrong with good ole brass/stainless/cf pins either though.

They look shared for sure. I tried a half dozen knives with them to get the design perfectly aligned with all the pins, then the last one I did I just intentionally rotated them out of alignment so it wouldn't bother me.

I think magnacut is close to the best steel for cutting up animals in the field.

This is what I like to see in a hunting knife, thin, boos belly to the blade and orange handles.

For guys who have had both micarta and G10 handles, how does the G10 grip feel compared to the micarta?

I have been looking at ordering a Charles May knife and cannot decide between the G10 and micarta.

micarta generally is more grippy than G10 (and a little lighter), but for me having orange scales outweighed everything- so went with G10 :)

Thanks mtwarden.

And, to add to the custom knives, here is my Lucas Forge hybrid with a Kephart handle and a 3 1/4" Elk River Hunter blade.

With use even a matte micarta will get slick.

Matte g10 with a nicely profiled handle would be my first choice. Scallops at the front of the blade are even better.

These are my two customs.
Both are magnacut
The black g10 scale knife was built by Clint Chisan to my specs
The Siembida I won through the backcountry hunting pod cast by Joseph von Benedict.
